as some of you know i have had a bit of a mixed past but am now sorted.
now i have just got a new job and they asked if i had a police recored and i said no knowing that you had to get your police file.
well today its turned up and its not very nice.
i had some minor things in the 70s that i thought h
had been spent[so i didnt declare them] but they have shown up.
but the worst is that when i was living on the streets the police would now and again have a purge and you would be arrested thrown in a cell for the night fed and watered[sometimes you got a slap and a bit of a kicking to if they where having a bad time] then you where released next day.now this happened about 10 times ,and in the winter it was nice to be warm for a while.
now all these arrests are on my police file[even though no charges are shown] so is this right as it seams unfair to me as it looks bad.
-
Im very surprised that convictions from the 70,s (which should be spent) have shown up.Im sure there is some procedure for getting them removed. :-/
-
I have stuff from the 80's that doesn't show up so thats a bit odd! Best to be upront about it rather than it appearing unexpectedly to them.

Have you looked here: http://www.thevillage.org.uk/spentconvictions.htm
In some cases, a potential employer can require the job applicant to reveal information about both spent and unspent criminal convictions...
Not the most authoritative site but does suggest it's not as clear-cut as you (we) might think.
-
I always thought that all convictions remained on file for ever, but only the ones not spent could be considered. In other words all previous will be shown whether spent or not.

Two types of CRB check, "standard" doesn`t show "spent" convictions, "enhanced" show`s all convictions from age of criminal culpability

OKeh Rob who can request which type, standard or enhanced and for what reason. If it's not too complicated. I guess I was right in assuming all convictions stay on file

CHEERS Rob
The reason I ask is because of the new ( to me) question re criminal offence declaration when applying for motor insurance.

To be fair to all it is plain common sense in todays day and age when most data record bases are interlinked thereby making the records easily available to any company or business who are registered to utilise them to almost instantly check anyones past history.
The motto is that you should always be truthful and if the prospective whoever is still interested they will ask for more information from you and then base their decision on that. If you can justify or explain your reasons for having the bad marks then all will probably turn out well. No one like a liar because when found out all it does is to prove that you cannot be trusted at all.
And YES, all records remain on your CRB file for life (apart from the junior ones) but most are hidden if they are donkeys years old and can then only be seen by the applicant applying for the Enhanced Check which most usually requested when you deal with the general public, salesw, health care, children etc.
Common sense really and sorry if I upset anyone but I full condone the practice.
As always, Honesty is the best policy!
;)

They'll drag up everything irrespective if it was even prior to you being sixteen, been there done that ::)

Mine was enhanced and still didn't show anything

Unfortunately I was being held in the cop shop at the time they advised me of my long distant priors 8-)

ABH at 15 doesn't show up on mine. Hasn't done so far anyway, have just applied for a new one which was of a different format to ones I've had before so we'll see.
If it's not relevant to your current job role then I don't think it should be held against you.

That is my understanding, recently had a 'hit' on a new CRB on a teacher, I had to inform the head but was old and unrelated so no problems..... :y
Enhanced Police Check will look at everything and has to be renewed every 3 years.......there are current proposals to lift some of the circumstances for an enhanced check as it has got out of hand a little over recent years, an example may be a known parent who helps transport some Brownies etc on very odd occasions. It is difficult to know where to draw the line on this, :-/ :-/ I know some schools in Hartlepool that were not allowing Community nurses into school unless they showed their crb on each occasion, thankfully common sense prevailed and this has now stopped.
-
they shouldnt drag everything up pre 16 years of age as there is a rehabilitation of offenders act...can't quote it as too long but that will tell you what should/should not appear on any C.R.B check..we have too have one every three months :y :y

Current recommendations for us are that they are redone annually.
While I do see them as necessary I think it could be done better, I currently have 3 enhanced checks which are valid and have just had to apply for a fourth. There should be a way of making it more efficient and cost effective, cost alone could be a barrier to some people holding them. We've just paid £123 to a company for 2 checks.

I've held them for 10 years, usually more than 1 at a time, started at £25 and gone up from there. My employer is a charity and the fee takes some finding. :(

I must admit having to have multi crb checks because a person may have more than one role / employer does seem silly.....

Silly.....it's a load of cock, just another tax. They should bloody get after the law breakers instead of the law abiders.
New insurance sorn thing a prime example. Why the hell would a scrote care about that law when they're not bothered about the other more serious motoring laws they break day in day out?
