Just got in and spotted sat on the wall what I'm sure was a Wasp. It was smaller than the usual Wasp, It's thorax was crimson in colour and tail electric blue (or it could have been the other way round :-/) I've done a search on the net but can't find anything like it is there any insect experts out there that can shed any light? Oh and before any of you ask I was not under the influence of any mind altering substances!!

They look quite stunning!

I am almost certain that it will belong to the 'Cuckoo Wasp' family which do come in many different colours. They prey on other wasps just as the cuckoo bird does to other birds.
Hope that helps...
