Well last week i managed to trash my nokia contract phone,
being a bit tight a mate of mine said don't buy a new one i have an old phone you can use. Many thanks to him he brought it round and its a blackberry 8800,
Does anyone know if it will work with my contract i have unlimited internet use but for some strange reason it won't log on, My son has a blackberry 8520 and my sim works fine in that.the phone is locked to vodafone but i have a vodafone contract. I have called into the vodafone shop and all the 16 year old shop assistant says don't really know but i think you need a blackberry contract grrrrr.
Any ideas, >:( >:( >:( :-/

Blackberry uses a different Internet protocol to normal Mobiles (one off the main reasons I dont have one), you'll need to chat with your Network Operator, they should be able to configure it over the Air or worse case send another Sim, be prepared to have to change Tariffs though.

If its unlocked it will make calls and text with any Sim but still wont do Internet without a Blackberry Sim or Tariff.

You need to notify your network provider, you will have to pay extra £5 p/m for internet but blackberry call it their (messenger service) which will unlock/allow the internet. Basically BB dont want you PING'in each other free lol :D ;D ;D Whatever pingin is!!! :-/ :-/ :-/

Right, even TB's post isnt exactly correct ::)
You dont need a BB contract to use a BB (altho it will have limited functions)
If you can make calls and texts then it must be unlocked....so far so good.
To use the internet on it......you will need to either install opera mini on it or if you wish to use the BB browser you will need to follow this procedure..
http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Learn-giffgaff-Top-Tips/giffgaffer-s-guide-to-Blackberry/td-p/92334
Note this is getting it to work on GiffGaff, so you will have to apply the settings for your network (The instructions in the above link by anworm are for getting the BB browser to work)
Tho you will need a data cable to either install opera mini or follow the instructions in above link.
Good luck :y
PS i have a BB working on the GiffGaff network, who dont at present have a BIS, following the procedure in the link above, I have the BB browser working and for email, I use the Gmail client. I dont bother with 'chat' altho it is possible to install 3rd party apps for 'chat' if you wanted.
