Is everyone as p*ssed off as I am with the digital tv update that appears every single day when you first turn it on? Is it beyond the capaibilities of those responsible to just simply do it in one go once a week or better still, each month? Or is it just another thing that this countries so called experts cannot get right and utilise a make do and mend attitude as always? I am beginning to think that this country has finally exported all of its brains cos it now seems to lurch from one cock up to another with no solution in sight.
Who is paying for this fiasco?? You got it right.... its us the poor bleeding taxpayer again that is paying high wages to experts that are mainly useless and could not organise a pee up in a brewery :D :D :D
-
Stop moaning woman, if you want something that actually works then you'll have to pay for it ;D ;D
-
What updates are these?
I've got two tv's with freeview built in, they don't do updates.....
I seem to recall that i have got an external freeview box somewhere, that started trying to update it itself everyday....i just turned off auto updates on it to 'fix' the problem ;D
-
Didn't even notice the updates to the Humax
Pace don't do updates - they do boxes which will be scrap at switchover
-
only noticed this with a cheap box, wanted it frequently.
better ones amend the channel list silently - no messing about.
-
Is this the pre-DSO alerts they send out a few months before DSO, as there is normally 2-3 retunes required in the 6 months leading up to DSO?
Its to ensure everyone gets the message - they accept the country is full of incredibly stupid people, and they have a responsibility to assist them.
If its a retune message from your box, well, make a better decision next time ;)

I'm pretty certain the external box that i have (that i turned off auto updates) was trying to update its firmware
-
I have no boxes just integrated TV's. Upstairs gives me the odd reminder, downstairs never does? :-/
-
i dont get updates, i just do it every now and then.

As I do with freesat............ :y

martian....your comment instructing me to stop moaning is a silly one considering that you do not know what equipment I have. Was it made just to boost your post count?
Freeview boxes...we do not have any! Should I post pictures of the tv screens just to prove it happens, as it did again this morning? By the way when I called the local Sky installer he told me, as did the Digital TV switchover advisory thing that it will keep happening until such time as the whole country has finally turned digital and the analogue system switched off for ever in 2012. Apparently it is due to the fact that some channels have to change numbers and there is only a limited amount of free ones thay can use. Common sense really which I only got nto understand myself after I had rang the experts.
For you information our TV's are all Panasonic's (many still under the manufacturers unextended warranties) and include 2 x 42 inch plasma's, 2 x 26 inch Lcd's and a 19 inch Lcd in the kitchen. Coupled with the Plasma in the living room are the the top Sky+ Package, a Wii, a Cinema Sound (Panasonic of course) and a seperate Tivo which we use for our FreeSat. Needless to say that the bedrooms are also on Sky packages too. Soon the conservatory will have a full Media Centre TV also with Cinema Sound.
We love our entertainment and as we rarely go out we can afford to buy the best equipment and enjoy it. Many of our neighbours come round for movie nights too so all in all we have a good life. Everything is also fully paid for too because we use cash.
All is covered by a full ADT alarm system and cctv as recommended by our insurers.
Try to think before you post of what your comment will be read as meaning...yours was uncessarilly rude.
By the way, have a look at the symbol below my avatar...I am clearly a male! ;)

Bionic....the comment above was obviously not serious and a joke...note the smilies....lighten up a bit and take things as intended :y
constant retunes are a well known 'feature' of cheap equipment, hence the advice to buy better, as we now know you have 'better' equipment, this is less valid....
General chat is, and always has been a humour / banter rich enviroment, and long may it continue. No offence was meant.
As noone else here seems to be suffering like you...can you be more specific on the message you are getting...
If its asking for a retune, do you do it?

Ive not had any tvs or equiptment be freeview or sky do these updates, i sometimes notice channels have moved so maybe mine do it in the background.

Your reply to martin seems a little heavy tbh
-
I've never noticed any updates on Virgin.
If there was I would moan about it as I AM a moany old woman! ;D ;D ;D
-
:D ;D Not that we think that..... ;)
Because we know you are not, you are more the party type who just enjoys life to the full unlike some misery guts who constantly poke fun at others as their entertainment or abuse animals for the hell of it.
Garden again today >:( bleedin sun will be out too to make it worse......

Smileys..Hm, the fact that a post is followed by smillies can be taken either way...as a joke ;D or as an insult depending on the content as a method of averting consequences should the comment be taken as not being a joke. Two seperate snipes in one sentence was a bit too much. Not everyone has the same sense of humour after all. Given that I am a male made obvious by the sign next to my avatar and then to be called a woman made me think that the content was not a lighthearted joke. Now that another has jumped at the chance to also jump on bandwagon with highlighted comments it only serves to prove to me that my thoughts were initially correct.
If I think someone may be offended I start my post now with an explanation.
That was the reason I passed the thought by you about my post that was controversial for your opinion. I do try to be fair but at the moment one particular sniper is reluctant to let the past go. Perhaps more thought should also be given by those who post as to how the post may be read with a different meaning than was intended. None of us are perfect are we? What was the intention of the highlighted text anyway? Was the included quote not enough on its own without the extra embelishment? I can take a joke as well as the next person but when it gets to be too close to the bone I rightly object. I would hope that anyone who also felt the same had just the same right too because at the moment it makes me think I am being singled out by a few. Am I? :(
-
Ok...
Points have been got across.
Humour was definately intended...in the normal gen chat style, but this was obviously not received well, despite no malace or offence intended.
Please all try to consider others in your posts, and also think as to whether offence could be caused.....or if you should 'really' take offence at a joke.
and please....
NO JUMPING ON BANDWAGONS.
That helps absolutely noone and causes more problems than it solves.
Any more posts on the above will be deleted and thread locked...
Now.....Any more updates to the question on that telly / tellys.

Can't believe it! >:( ,.Its done the same again this morning. I have looked at the Panasonic website, got in touch with their customer care and technical departments and they say that it is normal and will go on until the changeover is completed in 2012. They then tell me that there is no way to make it run in the background automatically and so I am going to stop using the normal tv and rely solely on the Sky+ and now that it has arrived...a FreeSat system.
Does anyone know what is going on because there seems to be many, many different thoughts about it and none with a solution. :D

doesnt seem to be a solution if panasonic have said your going to keep getting them. my freeview box was only 20 quid and has done me well for the last 5 yrs, luckily i dont get this come up on screen or it would of gone in the bin, but still living with my x wife at the moment i have sky which i think is just as bad as freeview, full of repeats

All I can say is that we have only got 2 messages per TV in the lead up to DSO.
This is the closest we have got to DSO (Sept), as last attempt the transmitter burnt down ;D
Given a post above about all being Panacronic, I wonder if there is something unique to their firmwares :-/. The IDTV's here are Sammy, Grundig and a cheapie Tesco branded one (not Tecknika).
-
If the TV is retuning regularly (e.g. daily) then I would say it's a fault in the TV. Either buggy firmware or the non volatile memory is shot and the TV is not storing the new settings each time it rescans.
Yes, channels get juggled around occasionally and some TVs make a meal out of retuning, but this doesn't happen on a daily basis.
-
I'd be tempted for a factory reset if mine was doing this thats for sure.
-
Seem to remember our Pana asking for a good few retunes in the run up to switchover but certainly not daily. Tend to ignore them till I can be bothered as tv runs through the media centre anyway.
-
did you say you have more then 1 panasonic the same? are they all doing it? or just the one tv.
i mostly just use sky, due to my ariel being inside the loft (it doesnt like heights) so i dont get great signal.
would you need to use the freeview for now if you have sky and free sat?
-
I've got two Freeview boxes.
One only has a program guide that goes a couple
of programs forwards and quietly updates the
information without any drama.
The other has an all-singing all-dancing 7 day guide.
On this box you have to leave it on Standby overnight
so that it can update the guide. If you switch it off
completely it does the same as Bionic's and switches
to standby when you switch on so that it can
update.
Perhaps Bionic's Panasonic is doing the same?
