Ok, so some will already be getting ready to have a go at the post but here is my opinion anyway...
After watching the news this morning about an overseas aid bit of news I was literally astounded at the manner in which the producers had put it together. The pictures of the skinny children suffering was shown but what put me off given any aid contribution or support for any of it was the inclusion of the pictures of the mothers of those dying children who were obviously not starving themselves, many were actually fat! The pictures of the 'army' with many modern weapons strapped on them and vehicles and country leaders with their following groupies who were obvioiusly very well looked after and cossetted with not a sign of hardship!
Please, if you want me to give aid then at least give me a valid reason to give it. If a parent can be as 'large' as some of those shown then why are their children starving? Does the food aid we give go down their necks first? Pictures do speak louder than words and this time they shouted at me...
All overseas aid should now be stopped until such time as it was evident that all of the aid was going to the cause and not to purchase weaponry or feed and pamper those who do not need it. Get some birth control started, just as China did, sterilise the population, males too, after one birth if that is what it would take until the problem of the overpopulation was brought under control. If you know you cannot feed a child why have one, then continue to have them?
This country has enough problems of its own with lots of poverty. Why is this not given the highest priority and any surplus then given responsibly to the rest of the worlds poor? If this country held its hand out for charity and aid who do you think would help us? The truth of that is certainly not one of those countries we constantly give billions to....and how sad is that? >:(

What pishes me off is the amount of begging leaflets and bin liners you get through your door >:(
At the end of the day, anybody who can get in my clothes isn't rather starving ;D ;D

When we send billions of pounds to places like India yet them tinkers have the money to develop nukes and armed forces that is better equiped then anything we could ever dream about >:(
Don't get me wrong here, i'm not some heartless barstewed.
I have my own family and children but at the end of the day, its there problem.
Every year, the red cross and other organisations go out there the bail them out of the sh*t.
Same sh*t, different year >:(
This counrty has enough problems of its own.
How many people in Great Britain could benifit from the billions of pounds we give away ?
How many people's lifes could be improved with that money by spending it on cancer drugs, hostpitals, schools. ?
How about giving some of the money to the people who dedicate there life to careing for others :y
At the end of the day, any goverments first job is the protection and welfare of the people who voted them in >:( >:(

its the aid people that have helped cause it.
the country can only support so many people so if we left them to it a natural level would be found.
Harsh but true.
but we give aid , people get fitter more people are born so next year we have to give more and so the cycle repeats.

What gets me is that they may be starving but manage to walk for miles and breed like bloody flies.

couldnt have put it any better charity begins at home cancer research and a local kids charity and help for heroes get my donations :y

Flies, from what I can see could learn how to breed from them cos flies need high energy food to reproduce....the third world apparently does it better without.... ;)

Seems to me like the pictures on TV now are exactly the same as I can recall when I was a kid.
Sex education and contraception would be a more sensible use of the funds. Whilst it's aweful to hear a reporter say that a particular child died shortly after these pictures were taken, surely to goodness the real crime is bringing them into the world in the first place ..............

This is what I find hard to deal with, I remember such pictures in the late 60's I thought the idea of aid was to give people the equipment / knowledge to grow and develop. It seems to me that nothing has really changed, just their governing bodies getting richer.......I know we will hear about a drought, but after all this is Africa, it is mostly hot and dry :-X :-X :-X

Have you got a answer ?
Are you happy with the western world and us, the British having to step in and send them our hard erned money through donations and taxes just for the same thing to happen the next year ?
