Had to hot foot it down to Cornwall as mum in law had heart attack and things not good. £2.30 for up to 2 hours at Treliske hospital, £4.60 for up to 4 hours - multiply that by various visitors - this is taking the p***. Now bought a 5 dayer but that is still £15.

:'(
All free in Wales :y

Unfortunatley, that's they way they all seem to be going now. I've had to attend hospitals at Hertford and Epping for treatment over the last year or two and it's cost me a bloody fortune in parking. >:( Hertford hospital's parking charges are higher than any municipal car parks in the town. I think they see it as an alternative form of revenue to compensate for government cuts.
-
Last time I went to hospital I had a ride in a van with lots of medical equipment and was dropped off at A&E
-
Same at Scarborough hospital.
Hardly any spaces after staff have used them all up, no park and ride scheme and the car park is heavily patrolled to catch people who go over their paid for time as my olds found out to their absolute disgust as the five minutes before being discharged turned into 10 and they"took a chance". SOFT vulnerable targets
How hard would it be to have a park and ride scheme to hospital entrances?
-
I've had to spend extended periods at Bristol Childrens Hospital, the parking charges are pure extortion short term and the car park is smaller than your average postage stamp - not exactly what you need when your child is ill :(
-
£4.10 for four hours at QMC in Nottingham yesterday (whilst having my hip xrayed as I cant move my left leg at all).
The machines also do NOT give change, funny how all the parking prices were ten or twenty pence over the pound!
-
free in my part of scotland

I agree. they are taking the pi$$,many relatives of people receiving treatment there cannot afford to go daily due to the cost, there is another car park further away which is cheaper but a long walk for the elderly.
-
Just dont pay - seemples. ;)
Btw Bob, there havent been any cuts in the NHS budget. It is ring fenced at the level of inflation. ;)

They have also put double yellows, or residents only parking anywhere close. Except on the roads by the PDSA, and behind the Johnson's Arms.

I'm not surprised. My brother lives in a housing estate near a hospital and it's a nightmare getting up his cul-de-sac let alone finding somewhere to park. Mostly hospital staff parking there while the bloody extortionate car park onto which they've just built a second floor has plenty of space. >:(

That would only work if there was a mass civil diobedience approach. Certainly at Scarborough you get a fine. What then ignore it? There isn't a court in the land that would help you if you hadn't bought a ticket when one was "required".
As for it being free in other parts of the UK that too is wrong. It should be the same everywhere. Free or pay but not mix and match. Or are we saying postcode lottery is alright.?

I think hospital parking charges are a rip off. On principle I will avoid paying them and park on the road and walk. If I have to park in the grounds (I'm a very naughty boy I know ::)) I stick to the bumper of the car leaving in front of me and get out before the barrier comes down :y

Its agony, was supposed to go to Legoloand today with the family, stay over in a nice hotel and then go to Chessington. I sat in the car and the pain reduced me to tears so had to stay here (wife and kids have gone).
Bursitus apparantly.

TB will probably be along shortly to inform you its only housemaids knee, and a bit of pain never hurt anyone. ::) ;) ;D

Ouch, doesnt sound fun :'(

You big wimp! ;D Bet you weren't too popular! ;)
Hope it feels better soon.
-
Not popular at all, been resting all day (despite the temptation of some spraying needing doing in the garage)
Shes taken her mother! ;D
-
May I suggest strapping on a support bandage, then a night out on the town - no fear of nagging when you get home in the early hours. :y ;D
-
may I suggest ear plugs ;D

Oh hell, that's you permanently moved to the dog house then! ;)
Might not have helped the situation by asking her if the knackers yard (that's apparently what you're fit for) was at the heritage centre.....oops! ;D ;D
-
Ohhh....nasty.....I do refer to the heritage centre as 'care in the community' where old relics are found which are having thier scrapping date delayed!
Still, this pain must be worse than child birth as its certianly not something I would choose to go through a second time.........discuss. ;D :y

Christ! That's no discussion, think there's only little old me that's given birth (twice) on here! :P
With the male populations distinct lack of pain tolerance, humans would have died out by now if pregnancy was left to them! :P :P :P

Just like a kick in the plums...
No man EVER says kick me in the plums again after a few years...
yet many many women say, yes, id like to go through childbirth again...all over the world, many, many times....so cant be that bad. :y

I suspect its more the case that once you have 3+ kg of wriggling aien body inside pushing its way out that there is no turning back.....if it stays there its gonna hurt, for it to come out, its gonna hurt ;D ;D ;D

So, your admitting giving birth, with next to no pain.
Case dismissed :y ;D ;D ;D

Yup! And happy to admit I wouldn't go through it without pain relief.....though the pins and needles from an incorrectly sited epidural needle were worse than both labours put together! :(
-
Yeh, I also found the last period of Labour rather painful as well

;D ;D Shame!
My rule states that if I'm suffering he's gonna suffer too..... ;)
A former boss of mine had 7 broken bones in his hand from his wife giving birth......good on her I say! :y

I found her labour good.....that gas and air is great stuff :y

Well, my other half has recently had to start paying £4 per day to park at Bassetlaw hospital in Worksop, Maybe it doesnt sound bad except for the fact she bl00dy well works there, >:(
But if you are one of the highly paid consultants you get it for free, >:( >:(,
This has now had an impact on the local roads & the small shopping centre opposite as all the nurses are parking outside of the hospital grounds, now the shopkeepers are moaning but at least they are blaming the greedy car park operators & not the hospital staff.
-
There was something a few years back about free work parking becoming a taxable benefit....wonder what ever happened to that idea...
glad nowt to my knowledge :y

Our local English hospital takes parking charges directly from staffs wages at source. Funny how many double yellow lines have appeared locally to it.

No hope of that Cem with the uk NH (the service went years ago!).
So far I have seen the doctor and had xrays, I received no advice and now cant even get in a car to go back to the doctors.
So, I have consulted a family friend who is an expert, he advises rest, pain killers and anti Inflams and after its gone down, he will advise on exercises.
TBH, the doctor I saw did not have a bloody clue and the xray lot just said 'its not broken'
-
do you know what caused it?
or just suddenly aware of it?
-
I felt something pop whilst doing breast stroke...... ;D

yep.. and the doctors here.. its been years I'm bringing father to doctors.. all they do is take the money and write for pills.. and nothing changes.. >:(
and today was same.. 39 celcius outside .. I brought him to hospital early in morning.. had to walk long corridors.. and afternoon again..
checked the net for that problem.. you have to rest and must not use that leg for some time ???
cure takes time.. and can have serious consequences.. so be careful imo.. :-/
ps: and I dont mention about the parking price in hospital that I paid twice and run a long distance >:(

Car park costs now minor part of problem - will have to leave wife down here in Cornwall and as we are 6 miles from hospital will have to get hire car whilst I go back first to London and then to see my parents one of whom is in hospital in Glossop.
HenryD - any cheap runabouts going in your neck of woods? Please pm me if you have.

I don't have anything myself but a look in the west briton under£500 section will normally find something, problem is that down here even a car the size of an Astra weighs in at around £200 so makes reasonable runners a little more expensive
