Following on from Rods2(yes pls for the chicken and pineapple curry recipe) and Optis food thread, anyone got any cheap, tasty etc recipes?
Heres mine for two hungry people. Takes 20 mins tops.
200gm Pasta, 100gm bacon bits, 100 gm onion finely chopped, glass of wine, 100 to 200 gm blue cheese
Get kettle full of water boiling. While that is on, peel a large onion. Sweat it in a pan in some oil or fat. Then add some chopped up bacon bits. Optional add a crushed garlic clove. If you do mind it doesn't burn as you brown the bacon pieces.
Meanwhile put boiling water in a pan, add some salt and throw your pasta in. Set timer as per packet.
Back to other pan. Add glass of white wine (or a cup of water and drink wine if you live somewhere where wine isn't cheap enough to use for cooking!). Let that simmer for a while.
3 mins from serving break up 100 to 200 grams of blue cheese - ordinary cheese at a push. Stir and let that melt into the sauce.
Drain pasta (Spirals are very good for this dish) and put sauce on top. Give a good stir and add plenty of black pepper and some chopped parsley if you want.

the wife made pork chops on sunday and i felt like something different so i made my own gravy.i made the usual half pint of bisto then poured it into a pan to which i added chopped black olives, tomato puree and a teaspoon of whole grain mustard,it turned out like sweet and sour gravy which i thought was delicious
