I think those people who use the emergency lane must be forced to go to the primary school for reading courses for at least 12 months.. >:(

for those idiots I lived a hard situation 2 years ago on a mountain..the service vehicles coudnt pass because their lane was closed and the road was closed.. so we waited 12 hours >:( >:( >:( >:(

What they should do is dish out 6 penalty points and a fine to anyone caught doing this AND re-take their test. Lets see then, how many mis use the hard shoulder!!
Like drink driving, your putting lives at risk but not allowing emergency services through to help those in need!! >:(

I'll think you'll find that it's actually called "Lane 3" not fast lane etc.
Lane 1 (inside lane) is the lane we should all use, lanes 2 & 3 are there for overtaking only iirc ::)

In some ways, it would be nice if traffic kept lane 3 clear for emergency vehicles, as you've only got to have one broken down vehicle on the hard shoulder and it will block it.
But, yes.. I can see that ever happening.. ::) BMW would have to make vehicles that actually function in the other two lanes for a start. ;)

Most of them must have done some nifty lane changing. They are the ones that are normally in lane 3 even though it was closed 200 yards back.
It was a good job the camera guy had a good manner otherwise he would have been decked!

Not entirely true any more, as more and more motorways are sacrificing this as an extra lane for busy periods. M42 and parts of the M6 already have this in place, and its being considered for parts of the M1.

I think this is a bad move - it's only going to be a matter of time before someone piles into the back of a broken down vehicle!
Their excuse "I thought it was in use!" When in fact they were either cutting up the inside on purpose or too busy on a mobile phone or feeding the kids in the back seats! >:(

Given the alternative is extra lanes, which is too costly and frequently not possible, its the best viable solution IMHO. And seems to work stunningly well... ...to the point I often don't use the M6 toll any more ;)

If going at motorway speeds should be able to coast into one without any trouble. Although if your in a jam and it dies, then your in trouble :-/
