Title: Peace is shattered
Post by: Entwood on 13 August 2011, 23:27:55
As the title says .... Entwood is back  :)

2 weeks in France flew by .. seems to feel like the shortest holiday ever !! Don't know where it went. Weather was good .. couple of wet days and one major thunderstorm but nice and sunny the rest of the time.

1300 miles travelled of which 880 were towing, still saved over £120 on fuel despite LPG being more expensive and petrol slightly cheaper than UK.

Couple of car problems ....

Major one being the wheel bearing (Drivers side) I changed in March .. just 3000 miles ago started to whine a bit on the way down... 500 miles later it was so noisey you could hardly talk and the actual ABS ring thingy ( the only bit I could reach without taking the wheel off) was far too hot to touch !! Eventually found a garage - not a dealers - that a) spoke enough English b) understood  that Vauxhall = Opel and c) where happy to do the work in a decent timescale. Next problem was that the guy was adamant that the passenger side one had more play than would pass the French MOT - I agree it had some play but I would have liked to just re-torque it - and would only do the job if both were changed.

Labour cost was very good ... €49.00 for each side ... £43.75 however ...... the only parts he could get were Quintin Hazel ones ... at €239.01 ... £213.40 each ... :(  :(   :(  so a total bill of €576.02 ... £514.30  .. :(  :( All prices include VAT at 19.6% .. :(

God knows where he got them from at that price ... but the car was almost undriveable so I was stuck .. :( He did do the job the next day and only had the car 3 hours

Other problem is the appalling condition of the french country roads looks to have finished off the wishbones ... they are 20,000 miles old so I'll be ordering up some new ones then polybushing the ones I take off in slow time ... are Autovaux still the best place for wishbones ???

Very few photo's that involve the car ... but lots of Chateauxs, Donjons, Citadels, Gardens and Cathedrals

:)

Funnily enough, my front nearside bearing, the one that was replaced at Newent last year, had play when Mr DTM checked it over before it's MOT.

He managed to tighten it up.
