I thought Beeston Castle too, not so very far from us.  The view is out over the cheshire plains to the mountains we live under!

Meet the Medieval nobles and their horses as they take part in medieval skill at arms, using a variety of weapons as they train for war and hunting. Attended by their household and musicians you too can discover the secrets of medieval life

I have many fond memories climbing the mountains of N Wales and cycling across the plain.  Tryffan is a particular favourite of mine, esp when climbing from the A5 layby :y

One July evening I started climbing at 9pm, scrambling up the dried waterfalls around the back bumping into mountain goats.  I followed the sunset all the way up and spent the night inbetween Adam and Eve.  It was absolute magic :y

After near on having a bloody heart attack walking up to the Castle, we found a Well that must have gone down to the Earths Core  ;D We collected some small rocks then dropped them through the netting over the Well, then listened for the noise............. which was ages.. never heard any water though :-?

Haven't played out there since I was doing expedition training at college.  Our lecturer fell a fair way on to his back, wasn't fun getting help in.  :(
I miss climbing but I'm far too old and unfit now, anyone on a belay would have to haul me up! ;D ;D
Some good climbs above Fairbourne and Barmouth too, real good scrambling. :y

I can't really climb anymore as it is difficult finding someone my weight who still has the fitness.  I still do a lot of hiking and scrambling as it comes with the job and I am still a qualified Mountain Leader.

Not too much opportunity to use it darn sarf though. :(

lol, distinct lack of mountains!
We've just been to Yorkshire/Humberside and it was that flat I was in danger of developing agoraphobia, was a relief to be back to mountains today! :y
