Saw my surgeon this week, got the following news:
After X months of chemo/radio, the "lump" on my liver has shrunk to the size "expected" as showed by the CT scan.
The root cause of the "lump" (which started in the bowel) can now no longer be "seen" on the MRI scan.
In short the doc isn't saying it's gone, but the fact it can't be seen on a scan any more (when it was clearly visible before) sure as s**t works for me.
Got a day in on tuesday for a "non invasive" (Del Boy & the russian camcorder) look to have a double check, but if all goes well (will make a change for me) then it means I don't end up with a means of giving people a definitive answer as to whether I'm full of s**t (a bag) when they query it.
Happy days

Pleased to hear it. In less than a year my bosses Mum died, closely followed by two mate's mums, another mate's sister. After dishing out sympathy & support my lovely dear Mum decides to join the club a few weeks ago. I still have tearful moments so we can do without any more bad news from you!!!!
Good news, hope all stays well, Guy. :y

Great news and glad to hear it! :) Good luck with the camcorder - I presume it's getting inserted where the sun don't shine!
-
Great news ... as one who has put up with the annual insertion of a camera tube in a place where camera tubes should not go for over 16 years ... I know the relief of the "nothing to see" statement at the end ... :)

Great news. Even if it hasn't completely gone the treatment is beating it, which is more than half the battle. :y

He was wearing his "black" humour coat when I saw him on Monday, but I'm not averse to a bit of black humour myself so it was good to exchange the "sick" cancer type jokes (mine are still better than his IMO) ;D
I did struggle to work him out at first when he told me the tumour was no longer visible, it was almost as if he felt he had to talk me in to not going under the knife when he gave me the news.
I think that the Col was thinking like that because he knows I have had quite a blase attitude overall (when he told me last December, my reaction was nothing more than a shrug of the shoulders and a verbal statement of "oh well, shit happens").
Last Monday was a little bit different when I was waiting to go in and hear the results though, it's definately starting to sink in just how close the grim reaper potentially was.
The little "child born out of wedlock" is still over my shoulder because I still have the liver to deal with, but the news that the main cause is no longer visible on the MRI scan has been quite an uplift as the operation for the liver is a piece of piss compared to having my ringpiece hacked to bits (so I've been led to believe).
Even if it turns out the tumour is still down below and he has to operate I'll still be happy, because if it's shrunk to the point where it can't be seen on an MRI scan then that simply means less collateral damage for me when he goes in and a better chance of staying above ground rather than 6ft under.
PS
If it is all "doom & gloom" and I'm going to die in 6 months time, I'll be setting up business as a contract killer (cash only) to make sure the wife & kids have enough dosh to live on when I'm gone.
Not only will I obviously be cheaper than the likes of Carlos The Jackal if you do want someone done away with, but you also know you won't have to worry about me talking to the cops unless they get a damn good medium in ;D ;D
@ everyone else,
Many thanks for your wishes :y :y

Only just seen this, excellent news Martian, I'm sure the therapy has been bad enough, but the worry worse :(
I guess the treatment continues until they can be confident its all gone, esp as it seems to have been effective :y

congrats. keep positive :y :y

Clinical types are often quite dark in their humour. Do your drugs allow you to drink yet? We still need to have that beer :y

It's only now that I have started to worry about it properly, up until now I pretty much shut it out.
Regardless of whether surgery is required or not (it will be for the liver), I'll be signing up for the "5 year checkup" plan once they are satisfied it's gone and only be considered clear once that 5 years has elapsed without a recurrence.

I always top my drugs up with a drink, one or the other on it's own just doesn't seem to hit the spot any more ;D
Although the Col advised me to stop drinking (and smoking), he made it quite clear that in his opinion neither would impact my treatment or recovery, but if I was going to carry on then I should keep "within limits" (so it'll be a cheap night out for you ;D ).

Only just spotted this. I'm so glad it's a bit of good news for you at last, I don't think I would cope with such a situation as well as you. :y
As for not liking the idea of getting your arsehole ripped to bits, don't knock it till you've tried it. ;D

Is that why you ran away without the beer I gave you? ;D
