Are there more manual or auto omegas
-
mine's auto but i want a manual
-
Loads more auto's of course.......the luxury car market always is
-
Mine comes with driver involvement pack, just the way i like it 8-)
-
After driving a manual all day I love going home in the auto. :y
-
Manual every time, I can make the car do what I want it to do, when I want to, manuals are for real drivers not lazy ones, more response from a manual, dont see many rally cars with auto boxes, again, proper drivers.
I bet this gets all you auto drivers typing like mad.

Again I like to drive the car, proper driving.

Horses for courses. Give me a manual any day on a twisty lane. Give me an auto any day when I've got a lot of miles to cover because they're so much less tiring in traffic and, IMO, pretty much as good as a manual unless you're trying to get 10/10ths out of the car.
I'm fortunate enough to have one of each but if it came down to it I think my one and only car would have to be manual.
Also worth adding that if the engine's a bit peaky or doesn't have gobs of power an automatic is a non starter because it can't keep the engine on the boil.

Omega - Manual
Senator - Auto
I like both!! Auto when i am feeling lazy, but i still like the Manual...
A 2.6 Manual would be my ideal barge :)
-
terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired! Yet another auto vs manual thread! Zzzzzzzzzz! :y :y
They're 1.7 ton(ne) barges that're never going to be thrown around corners like a sports car. Have a 2 pedal car and be lazy.

I thought they all were....with paddles on the steering wheel for up/down changes
-
Before last weekend I'd have said Auto all the way, predominantly as I potentially do very high mileage, but I enjoyed driving the manual V6 back from Bucks for a change.
As far as you lot of 'proper' drivers bleating that you get more control over a stick is concerned, it's b0110x!! You just don't know how to drive an auto properly that's all!!

Ahh. Now we're talking. Straight cut sequential dog box with paddle shift. Changes gears clutchlessly in about a nanosecond, nice close ratios. :-*
Certainly makes stirring the stick around an H-gate for a gear look pretty tedious.
Unfortunately I think the noise would get on my wick, not to mention the gearbox rebuilds every 2000 miles.

I've always maintained my preference for a manual box, but since I've driving the new MV6 auto I'm not so sure now :-/
-
Auto all the way for me, I love em!!
Manuals just get on my nerves after a few miles.
-
hi all i must say auto 8-)
its great to have one hand free to wave in me rear veiw at chavved out corsa's :y ;D

I agree! More so when I smoked, I very quickly ran out of hands as I set off in a manual. When you're in an auto you can still fasten your seat belt as you set off, as you wait for the ciggy lighter to get hot so you can light your cig! ;) ;) When I used my Omega for work I could take my coffee with me as I had a spare hand to drink it with. I have to drink it at home now that I use a manual Astra diseasal. :( :y :y All while in complete control of the car Ociffer.
NB My tongue is planted firmly in my cheek as I speak. ;) ;) :y
-
Auto every time for me. After being stuck in endless tailbacks on the M1 last Fri it made the journey so much easier :)
-
Prefer manual, but my last meega was an automatic, was surprised to get the current meega as a manual as usually autos. Did like the old sports button on them autos :y
-
Is a manual that funny thing with a third pedal that you have to keep humping up and down, and waving the stick about, never being in the right gear at the right time? ::)
-
on a 2litre screaming 16v the manual was a must, on the v6's i vote for autos for stop start driving. which is kinda what all driving is :)
but now i got a manual 2.5 with cruise control so i got best of both worlds?! it's faster than my old auto 3.0 too.....
a bonus of autos i guess is you can't start in gear, or go without brake lights working (thats a pain when the switch breaks)
the grin factor makes the manual win for me :D
oh and a mechanic pointed out once that one clutch plate is better than 27 :-?
-
Auto, V6, climate, cruise, Bose, Leather.
The logical end of an argument for manuals is a Westfield ( or a Saxo :P ;D ).
I did see a Diesel Westy in Autotrader this week?! :-?
-
Ive got an auto but i like manuals too you can still have plenty of fun in an auto :y oh and rally cars use sequential boxes which is almost an auto ;D :P
-

Ahh, the wiesel! It turns up every now and then. 0-60 in 6.0, 60 MPG allegedly :y

You're right. Go to one end of the comfort / dirveability scale or the other. Works for me.
... although I have seen one or two automatic sevens built (and peddled, damn quickly too) by disabled guys. Huge amounts of credit due there. They must have b@lls of steel to drive something that quick on hand controls!

OK alot of forum members seem to have & like their auto's fine, I can live with that, but I prefer a manual, overtaking is more controlled, better m.p.g. oh & if my battery goes flat or the starter motor is fu**ed the car can be push started ( unlike the stranded automatic owner) ;D

I thought it was unwise to push/roll start a car with cats.

Yes it is (unwise that is)! Batteries tend to give quite a good warning before they die, so the owner who pays attention to such things and is keen on maintaining their car would replace it well before this happens.....
I have two cars, the Megga is an Auto and the Cavalier is manual. At first I did not really like the Auto, but it has grown on me - it is great in traffic and town. Just wish that the final drive ratio was higher to lower the revs on a long motorway trip.
Both Autos and Maunals have their advantages and disadvantages I reckon.
-

It's always advised against in owner's manuals but for no good reason, IMO. Push starting a manual car is no different from cranking it using the starter motor except the gearbox is turning the crank rather than the starter.
Obviously if the car consistently fails to start you're going to soak the cats in fuel, which is a bad thing, so I guess they're working on the assumption that you've already cranked it until the battery's flat, at which point you should really figure out what's wrong.
If the battery has gone flat because it's old or because the lights were left on there's no problem with a bump start, IMO.

My experience with "maintenance free" batteries is that they die suddenly. I've had 3 battery failures in the last 10-15 years or so. All 3 left me stranded with no warning. On one occasion, I pulled into a motorway services for a coffee, went to restart and the starter motor kicked once then all the electrics died and the alarm went off. Battery totally fubar.
I guess now I've got an auto I should keep an eye on my battery ::)

I had a manual but sold it and bought an auto which then made me want a manual again. After 12 months I found a 3.0 manual so I bought it and sold the auto. I now wish I had kept the auto ::) Could I have been a woman in a previous life ;D
-

Yes you are right, the average moggy just hasn't got the strength I find, a pair of shire horses would probably do it though :y
-
Horses for courses i think. SWMBO has a 1.2 clit and would hate to think how even more gutless it would be with an auto. I have also just sold my plaything. a 1.8 16v clit which again if it had been fitted with an auto would have taken away all the fun of driving it, however i do think that BIG cars lend themselves to autos, they aint racing machines to be arsed round the lanes, more leisurly crusers. Just my opinion i guess

Buy a set of good jump leads to keep your spare wheel company - just in case. :y
I've rarely ever needed mine, but on the occassions you might need them, they're invaluable. (like when you leave the doors open all day trying to dry your soggy car out)
-
Both mine and my wife's omegas are autos, at 35000\odd miles a year I really can't get interested in changing gear gear by hand. Quiet, comfortable and relaxed is what I need.
Perhaps I should have voted twice, once for each?
-
Manual :y
Auto = flat cap. :P

Will SWMBO need one in her Astra? ;) ;)
