Title: Washing Machines
Post by: Jester on 24 August 2011, 22:52:02
Right then - other half has declared the old washer as no good.  It keeps pausing on cycles and throwing errors.  It's fairly old - we bought it second hand five or six years ago.
Although it's started going a bit wobbly, it hasn't put me off Zanussi, and I'd be almost tempted to go after another one.  Has anyone got any advice on what to steer well clear of, or recommendations?

TIA :)

tragically , the house goods built here have two different standards.. one for export and one for inner use..

and they are definitely different in quality.. >:(

Recently been told that most white goods are basically the smae internals, just badged differently and with slighly different programmes.
Was also advised to never buy any product that says "exclusive to ****" for ***** enter comet currys etc.

Apparently it means made down to a price with very few nice bits.

All that was from a white goods repair man. and I do mean repair man not parts changer/fitter. He has been doing it for 30+ years and still going well.

Grr. sounds like the bearings in our washing machine are knackered again...  :(

Had to strip down the whole machine and split the two halves of the drum last time.

To split drums and replace bearings we used to get forty mins and that included full water test,
Imo Miele are the best money can buy they are designed to last 20 years. or the second best is bosch all the rest are made to a price Even good old hotpoint machines are now indesits with a hotpoint badge on them,

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Got the same problem with our LG. Im not going to bother. Ive done it twice before, but the machine is 10 years old now and on its last legs.Going to let it shake itself to bits and then buy a washboard and mangle. :)

According to my Granny it used to be known as Dolly Tub City due to the local miners bathing in the dolly tub in front of the fire.

A tin bath in front of the fire seems a life time a go ..... suppose it was thinking about it.  ::)

First house I lived in had no bathroom so it was a plastic bath in front of the fire when I outgrew the sink.

If you can afford one, Miele without doubt. :y :y
AEG after that
and Whirlpool are my less expensive choice

Don't go anywhere near Dyson or Hoover.

worked on a good many gorenje and i have to say not bad machines at least they use stainless steel outer drums unlike most of the others.
Hoover, Re badged candy
Hotpoint Re badged indesit/ariston
10 years ago aeg were a market leader in quality but sadly not any more as they are now owned by electrolux group as are zanussi,
Beko you gets what you pay cheap and cheerful but very easy to work on, Don't ever buy a washer dryer they are all a load of cr**
Take it from me i have been repairing them for the last thirty years i even go back as far as twintubs and single tubs,
