As the title.
How long from Edinburgh to downtown Sri Lanka in a Landy 110? Don't have access to the required software at the moment so - anyone able to assist with a ballpark figure? A for real answer please. I was guessing a fortnight as they are not the swiftest (or most comfy) machines on the planet.... ;D
-
I would say more like a couple of months. But if you are serious don't go to columbo, its a poo hole. Take the extra hour and go up to Kandy :y
-
Surprisingly Google Maps says: We could not calculate directions between Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh, UK and Sri Lanka.
;D ;D
No idea, sorry. But i'd be very interested to know. I am requesting a road trip from London to Tokyo :-X

Try google maps ;D ;D
8 days to the ferry port via Turkey Iran Pakistan India.
Look for Michael Palins new Europe book for places to see
So a month as you will HAVE to explore Hungary Bulgaria Romania.
See CEM in Turkey, Istambul, Ankara.
Not sure on Iran, but near Caspian Sea
Through India
Coast to Bombay, then right through the centre to the port the ferry leaves from.
Take plenty of pictures but may need to hide the gear through Iran

It's not a holiday - it's to deliver a car to a customer!!! ;D ;D
-
Need a co-driver? :-X ::) ;D
-
Autoroute only goes as far as Istanbul which is 2297 miles 5 days one hour and 53 minutes and I'd say you're looking nearly twice that again down to Sri Lanka.

All that way in a landy with rock hard suspension and your dodgy back? Lol!
-
Ah if its for work, don't forget to factor in drivers hours law :y

Would it not be cheaper for the customer (and less toll on the car) to ship it via container?

Yep... Be one hell of an experience though :y :y
And I'm likely to be "between jobs" in the not too distant future as well ::) ::)
-
Dont know exactly how long it will take, but I reckon you will need a flask (a wee tartan one ?) and a tupperware full of sandwiches. :y :D

As always, depends on what the customer wants..... :y

I'd take a couple of spare jerrycans of petrol as well :) :) ;)

That's as the crow flies, not as the Landy flies. ;)
Not a kick in the pants off 8000 miles by road according to Google maps. 25 days if you could average 40 (which I doubt) and drove 8 hours a day 7/7.
But less than a day to fly back home. :)
Are you pulling our pilsner H21? ;D
-
Nope, not a piddle take. It's an option that the purchaser is considering. Just got to get some kind of handle on the time and logistics involved. As much as I fancy a wee toddle down the road, I think the container option will be the preferred one. Will have to wait and see. Thanks for the input. :y

Always gets the blood running when a long haul job gets mentioned. I once managed to get a run to Bosnia when the war was on taking toilet blocks for the refugee camps.
Hope your luck is in B.

this will take more time than the trip :-/

Gotta love a good roadtrip!!! :y :y :y
Actually, I don't think the paperwork would be too bad. For the Landy you'd get a Carnet de Passage from the RAC, which is basically a temporary import permit, and in practice works abit like a passport in that it would get entry and exit stamps for each country. You'd only need it for Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka.
Assuming the drivers are British passport holders, you'd need visas for Iran, Pakistan and India. India would be easy, Iran and Pakistan might be tricky but do-able I'm sure! ;)
So in theory, it's easy! :y In practice some of the border crossings would be a PITA. A friend of mine spent 48 hours at the Greece/Turkey border a few years ago. Ate something dodgy and only had a few squares of loo roll with him... :o :-[ The Pakistan/India border must be a nightmare! :-/
You'd also need a trailer full of spare parts to get there in Landy!! ;D ;D ;D
-
That would be a great road trip.... In anything other than a Landy, IMHO. ;)
