Title: Where's my HD?
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 22 August 2011, 21:02:31
I recently purchased a Panasonic 42" Plasma HD Freeview TV knowing that on 17th August, Freeview HD would be available in my area.

Alas, HD is still unavailable. Has anyone else had this experience? Does anyone know a way of finding out when we're likely to have Freeview HD? I've checked on freeview.co.uk but it's not very helpful--it's still telling my that HD Freeview is available on 17th August. :y :y

Any ideas?

Does the TV have a Freeview-HD tuner built in?  Being plasma, I'm guessing possibly not  :-/

Yes, TB, it does have a Freeview HD tuner built in, which is why I'm disappointed.

If you are talking about the Belmont switchover then I'm watching it now & vfery good it is.

Channels 50, 51, 52 & 54.

If you are getting your TV from Waltham then the switchover is later.

Hope that helps.

:P I`m still pondering if I should ditch my 405 line VHF receiving-set and go all 'new-fangled' with this 625 line UHF malarky.......do you all think it`ll catch on?::)

;) Dear old Aly-pally! :-*

Can see it from my garden. All nicely lit up and some thirty miles distant. :y

We're right between the two. Almost exactly 25 miles from each transmitter. We lost all the analogue signals on 17th August as predicted for Belmont. But maybe we're receiving the digital from Waltham  :-/

Thanks for that. It may explain what's happened. :y

You will have had to do a re-scan/installation on the TV as the HD channels (and others) sit in the space occupied by the analogue signals.

Let us know how you get on.

This is the site you want to get reception information.

http://www.ukfree.tv/txlist.php

Select the transmitter you want on the map.

Then pop in your postcode and it gives the distance and heading.

Much more helpful then the freeview page.

Or you could redirect your aerial to Belmont & get the signal now.

I reckon they'll have to do something about the ferrite cores working themselves loose over time before anybody buys in to them, that 15.625 Khz whistle is so much more bloody annoying than 10.125 KHz  ;D

We are on the same transmitter.....There are more updates to the channels on the 7th and 19 or 21st of Sept to finalise the changeover in this area I have been told when I had the problem. My gear is Panasonic too so its not related to the manufacturers at all.
Be patient and just retune each day as I am doing and more appear each time I do it. Still can't get BBC 1 or 2 though! :y
