Why is Sky Customer Services so poor? Here goes why... I always pay my subscription online and in advance of the due payment date without fail. Yet today, again, I have just received yet another letter from Sky telling me that "there is £0.00 overdue on your account and your services may be suspended".
Am I going daft or is Sky completely of its track and now so inefficient that reality is but a dream for them?
It seems that for some strange reason best known to the idiot Denise Allan who signs the letters, without actually checking the facts, that English is a struggle for her to understand. To be fair though I did ask if she would like me to communicate in another language that she could understand and got no reply. No surprise there ;D ;D ;D
Thankfully we are out of the minimum contract period and have 3 FreeSat boxes plus Freeview on all sets too so losing Sky will mean absolutely nothing to us if they do suspend it. The only loser will be Sky who lose a customer and so the monthly fees for 3 boxes etc.
Point is are we the only ones who are receiving crap like this from them? Its a bad reception service when the weather is bad in Scotland and we lose the signal but are expected to pay in full anyway. Why doesn't FreeSat or DTV Freeview suffer from this problem too cos we get a fully uninterupted signal at all times whatever the weather from them both?
The more I think about it we would be better of each month by dumping Sky now anyway...what thinks?? ;)
-
They are pretty poor. If it was not for the music channels I would dump it in a nano second. And yes reception is poor in Southampton area aswell. It must be dodgy equipment in my book.
-
I reckon that Sky has been far too greedy over the years and have grown too big for their expertise and the customers have been thrown a bum deal judging by their latest gimick of telling us all that through the goodness of their hearts they have frozen prices for a year!
Do they really believe we will swallow that load of bull?
Or was it because they are now losing customers hand over fist? Could it even be that FreeSat has now got them scared and the new Freeview DTV+ and the other new enhancements for free was the last straw that broke their back?
I hope so and I hope that it continues to bring Sky back to its old service where the customer counted as being a valued assett and not just another finance provider they could crap on at will. Most of all its the subcontinental accents that I cannot understand and it happens every time I call them with yet another problem. Makes me think that the signals come from Indian subcontinent now too. :D ;D ;D ;D

'We are freezing prices for a year' can be roughly translated as 'in a year we will be doubling our prices'
As you say, how stupid do they think we are?
-
Unlike paying the license fee, Sky subscription is entirely optional, so, if you don't consider it value for money, there's an obvious solution... ;)

I think if Tesco froze price of every product for a year, you'd be happy ;)

I am a fan (as is Entwood) of the Humax HDR Freesat box

I should really ditch mine - £28 a month .. and I never turn the thing on ;D
Only keeping it for the inevitable switch of F1 to Sky next year, though I really should see if Virgin can get me those channels in HD so I'm only paying one subscription for TV that I barely use, instead of two!

RTL will be used here - just need to sort a dish
-
Sky are not losing customers 'hand over fist', on the contrary, they added tens of thousands last year.
-
I don't like having one disk on my house, though, Martin - let alone two :) (Or, I suppose, a motorised dish..)
-
Why not pay via direct debit? Saves lot of hassle.....
What exactly sucks other than you get some extra paper with no invoice amount?
-
If everybody boycoted Sky, we'd soon have the major sports back on freeview TV, I personaly wouldn't give Sky the time of day or the money.

So who would pay the millions for the rights? Cash strapped BBC? How would clubs get the millions to buy new players? There would be zero money in the sport, unless the club was Russian billionair owned.

A whole collection of points here:
1. Sky from an admin point of view was never a problem for me and no complaints.
2. From a customer service point of view in dealing with issues - yes it did suck for a long time and then got better.
3. Unfortunately in my case recently they misrepresented broadband performance and then tried some bully tactics to make me honour the balance of contract which I successfully resisted.
4. They pissed me off so much I cancelled everything and do not regret any of it - saving £80+ per month. I agree with others the content of Sky dipped but more importantly the quality of BBC and ITV improved - healthy competiton maybe??
5. I am also now a fan of Humax HDR although it is not as smooth in operationas the Sky system - but you are happy in the knowledge of saving a load of dosh
6. to Tunnie's point there are 2 aspects - Sky did tremendous stuff to free up and incentivise sport - however it has now gone too far and most football clubs are totally unsustainable and something that started in the right commercial direction has now gone t***s up in my view.
7. I have been thinking about the whole thing about rights to soccer matches - TV cameras are at all the grounds but only a couple of matches a weekend are shown and BBC get the highlights. Sky obviously want to choke off competition - but they do gain revenue from say Virgin and BT Vision for permitting access to Sky Sports 1 and 2. Why can we not go a bit further and permit pay per view on free sat or other media by a deal which delivers further income to Sky from access to all matches that have been recorded - a collaboration between TV providers?
Something is clearly wrong with the huge costs to view Sport which people are progressively unwilling to pay - and a system which also leads footballers making excessive demands for wages which drives clubs out of existence. The loyal fans suffer .
The whole thing is now a mess with liquidaton of clubs a high possibility given the ropey finances. The FA etc needs to reassess where we are going with this lot but unfortunatley they are also creaming it in and the fans are faced with such massive gate entry prices.

Football has not always had people like Sky to sponser it Tunnie.
Football is well over the odds in costs anyway....
Stanley Mathews (have you heard of him) and the like had a full Time job as well as playing football for pence....

That was when football was better. Its a different sport now, the model it is now, the fee's Sky pay for the rights, the BBC could buy them, they choose not to because of cost.
People complain about Sky Go not having certain shows/games on mobiles, again, rights to play TV on a mobile device are huge...
-
I have always being a Boxing Fan myself. Boxing was on every week at one time, wrestling was on every Saturday morning with "Big Daddy & Giant Haystakes" etc....
Tyson I followed from day one until the fights then went onto Sky. I had sky just to watch the boxing that then charge £5 per fight... it then went up to £10 then £15 :( I then gave up with Sky and watch little boxing anymore...
It is a shame that the Big Boys take over with everything... :(
-
Sky don't set the prices for Boxing, the match does, they ask what they want each person to pay.
Recently, can't remember who wanted £15 for each viewer, Sky did not get enough interest in it, was not worthing broadcasting, so dumped it!

Thinking of a 1.2 with 4 LNBs on, or a 80 with 2, can't get 2 on my 65

Why should football have millions of pounds?
Why is low level football in dire straights?
The bubble will burst

Maybe I'm just too cynical these days but the way they make the advert sound, as if they're doing you the biggest favour in the world by not putting prices up for a year, when you know that after that, you're going to get clobbered with a big rise after that, and you know that they make huge profits every year regardless, gets my goat.
Yes, there are services that we could use instead of sky, but there are some good channels on there that you don't find anywhere else, just have having to pay for it :(

Sky is precisely the reason why popular sports such as the Premier League are going down the crapper ;)

What a load of utter bilge!
Sky may be poor in what ever regard (re customer service it's way above average ime) but as all things are relative it is class leading in every single respect. From customer service to technology advancements to number of HD channels, to number of channels generally... And yes it's class leading in how much they charge as well. Either buy it or don't.
Given the choice between free view and sky... Or virgin for that matter. These make sky look awesome by comparison, however crap sky might be! The alternative to sky is... As that bloke on QI would say... Loose stool water of the highest order!
Live with it. :)

Thats sums it up :y
If you don't like it, cancel and walk away. If you think you do get value for money (or at least use it enough to warrant it), keep it/buy it. And Tunnie has kindly offered those with 50 posts or more half price for first year :y
Its no secret I'm not a fan, and was once a Sky customer. For me, I like films. I can buy 3 or 4 films a month for the same as a Sky sub. Or go to flicks 2 or 3 times with Mrs TB.
Whatever works for the individual :y
-
Tunnie Is displaying the OOF spirit IMO. He is in a position to help others, and is doing so where he can.
Good work T. ... And actually, Good work sky. A successful British company. :y
I'll leave it there for now. :)

So your getting the channels you want at the same price as last year, when everything else, Petrol, Food, Clothes are all going up in price?
Sky customers get on the move access, get your TV via phone (android coming soon) PC/Mac & iPad at no extra cost. You get Anytime+ a router which plugs into Sky's vast online stock of movies. Again, new service no extra cost, Sky Atlantic its basically a whole new channel bought of HBO. Again that cost nothing extra....
What do you want? The world on a stick?
Can't please some people :(
Damned if they do, Damned if they don't
-
No need to take it personally mate, I know you work for Sky - it's not a rant that you need to respond to, I'm just letting off steam. Actually I get my Sky for half price, and I enjoy it, just wish I didn't have to pay for it at all :)
Just find that particular advert very irritating
-
Sorry if it came across wrong, no offence intended. Sadly Sky are in the situation of being damned no matter what they do. As a company to work for and be a customer they are one of the better ones out there

Wasn't trying to wind you up by the way

I'd rather spend my money on caravanning ;)
More great British companies providing work for the UK :y
