Title: anyone suffer high cholestoral???
Post by: Webby the Bear on 19 September 2011, 19:36:40
as above. had some routine blood tests done and the results are fine in every department apart from the above. i am at 6.5 when you should be between 3 and 5 apparently. theyve scared me a little bit as i need to make an urgent docs app. as i'm ''critical''  :( theyre going to shove me on tabs straight away.

i didnt think i was particularly bad health wise. just shows ya. anyone else suffer from this???

ps most disturbing thing im only 28!!!  :( :( :( :(

I was, but a cardiac arrest (with two bump starts from a booster pack) half a dozen stents inserted as required and a daily shedload of tabs, well, all good now!   ;D

If it needs sorting, then get it done sharpish.  You might not be 15 feet from the backdoors of a paramedic crew when the skinny guy with the big black hoodie and knife on a stick comes to call!  ;D   :y

over 6..every year since, they moved the goal posts,
get below 6
then 5
then 4,at present I,m 3.6. the tablets work fine, you just have to cut down on fat intake.( blood pressure and blood sugar levels)are next, common sence eating is the key.. :) :)

now, these days i can simply go to sainsbury's for my dinner as opposed to hunting wild boar i simply roll off and go to sleep. simplez  ;D ;D ;D

Thought I was reasonably fit and healthy with a decent diet but found out I had fairly high cholesterol last year. Been on statins ever since and they're bloody marvellous - cholestoral count down to around 3.5 now! You don't have to be overweight or on a bad diet to get high cholestoral, it can happen to anyone so don't let it stess you out. ;)

its very dependant on your life style and stress levels.. but kebabs and curries obviously dont help ::)

Thing is, was this an overall figure?
If you have high LDL it's not so bad as high HDL, there is a difference. I was checked on the rig by the medic with a finger prick test, he said 'ooooooh that's a bit high' It was 7.1.
Went to the quacks after a 24 hour fast for a proper test.
They give you the results with LDL and HDL separate so you get a real idea if your doing yourself harm or not.
My lifestyle then and now included the odd 4 mile run, about once a week, a lot of mountain biking (then) not so much now (too bloody hot in the summer) plenty of long beach/promenade walks (now) swimming and a relatively stress free job. So after the initial scare was told by the nurse that I'm doing just fine.
I have since cut down on beer but upped the red wine intake, well, in Spain, it's a must.
Go back for a proper test with a 24 hour fast before and see what the results are, I think and hope you will be pleasantly surprised, above all don't panic and remember if you take statins you will NOT be able to sunbathe on holiday, really sensitive skin from the pills.

Booze and fags are a big contribution to raised cholesterol - probably why mine was on the high side! ::)

Not bad considering my alcohol intake is quite considerable  ::)

No binge drinking but quite often see off a bottle of Wine most nights with the Mrs, often going out for meals too, more booze, Southern Comfort & Lemonade is also refreshing and often consumed.

Staying off booze for this week, apart from tonight going to a Champagne Bar  ;D

That said its either a 20 minute walk to Staff Shuttle, or 20 minute cycle of 4.8 miles each way to work, so that counter-acts most of it  :)
