Title: East Anglia Meet 2009
Post by: Lazydocker on 19 January 2009, 15:26:35
Just going to put some feelers out for another meet at the same site between Thetford and Kings Lynn again this year. TBH I'm a bit restricted on availability for a weekend this summer as Ive already got a lot of commitments on my rest days and work 5 out of 8 weekends! Add to that our summer holiday this year, which will include the Newent meet :y :y :y, and I'm short of time so...

July 4th/5th (Which may well clash with the Lakes I think :-/ :-/)
August 22nd/23rd (which is very close to Newent like last year)

These are the only 2 summer weekends I can make a full attendance at. There are others I may be able to visit for the day or possibly make it for the Friday/Saturday night only. I could also do a couple of weekends in mid-October but I am aware that camping in October isn't everyone's cup of tea... I'm not worried as I've got a nice heated Pikey Wagon :o :o ::) ::) :D :D

If someone else wants to jump in and arrange it then feel free but I just thought I'd get the dates I'm available out there early on and get a feel for things :y :y :y

I'm well up for that as it's just up the road from me. July or August dates work for me too!  :y

EDIT: I think the lakes meet is around the beginning of June?

Hoping to stay here again but want to get an idea of numbers before contacting them!

So do we have any more interest??? Favourite weekend seems to be July 4th/5th for most... Gives quite a nice spread between York, Lakes (if it happens), East Anglia and Newent :y :y :y :y

Right, I've spoken to the guys at Grange Farm and they've said they would love to have us back! We can have the entire end (like last time) and the area under the bridge for sheltered fettling and a hard standing! They've even said that we can negotiate a special rate as the prices above are last years!

At the moment we're early enough to get in and book with no problems whatsoever for the weekend in July, which seems to be a popular choice.

Sorry if I've stepped on your toes Tony but thought I'd get cracking!

So... We'll start a proper list... Once I've got a better idea of numbers I can contact them and make the bookings :y :y :y

Be intersted in this, and Grange Farm is easy enough for me to get to. Only problem is work commitments as I work every weekend normally . Will try and get at least a day off but will not know until much closer the time , which doesnt help you with booking numbers etc :(. If worse comes to the worst, could I just come up for a couple of hours to meet you guys and put some faces to names?

No problems with that at all! TBH as long as we have at least 6 or 7 camping I don't see an issue with us having the complete end of the field. I reckon we could accommodate about 14 in the one area without it getting too crowded as they are happy for us to pitch closer together than normal. There is also plenty of other space so not really a concern if we go over that number.

Right guys... I've just spoken to the lovely camp site managers and booked the same area we had last year for the first weekend in July... Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th. Can I please have a confirmed list of attendees (campers only essential) and type of weekend abode so I can let them know. They have very kindly agreed not to ask for deposits again this year and will consider doing us a deal on he rate when we confirm the numbers :y :y :y

I'll start a new thread here (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1234457469/0#0) for confirmed attendance :y :y :y

It would be good if we can convince someone wielding a Tech 2 to come along ::) ::) ::) But I can't see that if we can't even get the local members to attend :o :o :o Come on guys, you wont regret it :y :y

It really is a good site and having the road bridge gives a very handy shelter if the weather isn't good.

No worries. Don't think i'll use much water in one day but i don't know any members from this neck of the woods. I do go to Jeyes (DHL) in Thetford, nice part of the country so would be good to meet the East Anglia members & take some piccies to post. :y

Is that confirmed attendance? If so I'll add you to the confirmed list! :y :y :y

I will be contacting the confirmed attendees via PM in about 5 weeks time to get the names (Real, not Forum ID ::) ::)) and stay details to confirm with the campsite :y :y :y

There a good chance I'll be able to make this for the Saturday and Sunday. Be a nice change to attend a "local" meet unlike the Lakes and Newent! ::)
If I can make it I'll bring along the trusty OOF gas barbie. :y

If Johnnycboy's going I'd better get a new liver on order!! ::) :D

Yep, there's Leccy hook-ups available, although we might have to share some because I can't remember how many are in the area we're going to :-/ :-/ :-/ It's not a problem though... Easy to sort that :y :y :y :y

As for dogs, as far as I know they are welcome although must be kept on a lead at all times :y :y :y

Be good to see you if you can make it

That's the site! The info on there is well out of date though!

I've just spoken to them again and they said we should be able to get 10 on the area at the end, 8 of those with electric, but they also have another area, about 5 pitches away, which they're happy to put us on too, and a rally field (although this is over the other side of the site and away from the hard-standing under the bridge) as long as the socialising happens down the end :y :y :y

Oh... And ignore any prices you see published as they're going to do us a deal once I confirm final numbers :y :y :y

I'm co-coordinating all the bookings for them so they will just hold the area for us and take a list of names from me nearer the time. As the interest is starting to grow I need to think about setting a date by which I need to have confirmed attendance to ensure the pitches are available. I think I need to say that I'm going to confirm the bookings with them during the first week in June to give them notice if they need to make some more space :y :y

In a simple answer, yep... Think there's going to be almost as many ladies as "Boring, 'dangle berries' talking blokes"! :y :y :y

As for plans... I wouldn't know, I'm not a lady! :D :D :D :D

I'm sure they'll come up with something, as long as Mrs LD doesn't have to drive as she doesn't like driving my car... What a shame! ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D

Kings Lynn is closer, being about 15 miles away but Norwich is doable as it's only 45 miles. Roads to either aren't too bad (for Suffolk/Norfolk) so easily doable for a day out. :y :y

TBH I'm looking forward to just relaxing for the weekend this time! There is the area with the Hard Standing and the bridge for shelter but it's beginning to look like we may be better to let them book those pitches out and move to a larger area so we can all stay together :-/ :-/ :-/

We can squeeze 10 on the normal area, or 9 plus a socialising area, and everyone else will be nearby, but not in exactly the same place (we're talking within 50 Yards or so!) or we can ask about the Rally field, which means we'd all be together but a little further from the toilets/showers etc..

What does everyone think?

I've just spoken to the guy there and he doesn't see any need to move us... All he asks is that the noise is kept to a considerate level after 10:30ish, so no music etc. He said they accept that with a large group it will be noisier than normal but have no issues with it at all. Obviously the normal rules of decency apply and, as we're all adults (allegedly!) I'm sure it'll be fine.

And obviously... No Racing/doughnuts etc

He is going to make sure he can get us all in the same area, although some may be separated by some bushes, and didn't bat an eyelid when I said we're probably looking for 15 pitches instead of the 5 we needed to get the area to ourselves.

Prices will be confirmed nearer the time, but I can say they will be no more than those on the leaflet on this thread.

Just as a warning, something that surprised us last time, the showers are 50p per token. Although this sounds horrific, you get 20 minutes hot water for that so we found it best to get a couple of people together and share a shower token :y :y :y

Not too late at all Guy, I'm going to collect the names and details of everyone on the confirmed list at the start of June to give to the site owners. They are leaving an area at least 15 pitches in size for us, which we can squeeze more onto if required, and are willing to fit people into other available pitches if the need occurs as long as we do the socialising in the one area :y :y :y

We may be running a little shy on Hook-ups though so we might have to share. I've got a long lead I'll bring along and a 13A socket on the outside of the Van if needs be :y :y :y

We'll have to have a quick discussion about catering nearer the time as last year we all took enough for ourselves and another 2 or 3 people and ended up with so much food that half of it went in the bin :o :o :o
Tis around my birthday (which happens to fall on OOFs birthday), hence the cake Q ;)

In that case I'll make sure Mrs LD does Brownies!

Hi LD. I'm down for a day visit on the saturday. Is it too late to stay over with a small caravan, hook up if poss (for the lappy) but can manage without. Just the sat night, then home sunday.
   Cheers, Guy. :y

Excellent. Thought i might as well stay over if i'm driving out there. I'll bring some curry, can boil rice in the van on gas without leccy if need be, i've got a lead as well so with the BBQ no one will go hungry!! :y

Hmmm.... The legendary curry!

Unfortunately SWMBO will have to pass on the curry as she's allergic to it, but I'll test her share too ::) ::) :y :y

You're more than welcome... We were all newbies once :y :y :y

Last year we were all newbies and made it a good one so come along. :y :y :y

Did you look through this thread, about a couple of pages back is all the info you need. If you are definitely coming and camping then let me know and I'll add you to the confirmed list :y :y

Yep... It's really starting to take off! It's good to see so much support coming through and I think it's going to be a real cracker!

I really must urge anyone who is thinking about coming to make up their mind ASAP and get their names on the confirmed list as I am now contacting the site every few days to increase the number of pitches we need :o :o :o There'll come a time, unfortunately, when they say they can't get any more of us in though  :'( :'( :'(

So get your names down if you are wanting to come as it is a "First come, First served" Situation!

Anyone already on the confirmed list will have a space :y :y :y

Please note, I will be contacting everyone on the confirmed list in about 10 days time to get your information to pass onto the camp site owners. After this point I cannot promise any latecomers a pitch, although the site will do their best to squeeze people in.

So.... If you want to come but haven't got your name on the confirmed list yet then you've got about 10 days to get it confirmed! :y :y :y

Yep... A month early! It's the first weekend in July :y :y :y

Unfortunately it's the only weekend I could do due to other commitments (I'm running refreshments and a bar for a charity weekend!) and when I asked about it at the start of the year it was a big yes from everyone who was interested at the time!

Seriously though, need to sort out a free Saturday night when me and Greg aren't DJing, but have a couple coming up - 20th or 27th June looking free at the moment, but then thats only a week or 2 before the meet. That's pretty standard at sites nowadays!  :o :o :o :o But those prices aren't what we'll be paying! It's last years price list and we'll be getting a deal anyway! :y :y :y :y

I'm just composing a PM to go to all people on the confirmed list, plus a few who have shown interest, to gather information as I will not be accepting any more bookings after Sunday.

Anyone who wishes to come after this point will need to contact the site directly and may not get the group discount!

There is a confirmed list, although I'm awaiting responses from people to confirm the details and pass on to the Camp Site. Should be OK for another couple of pitches as I asked for 15 and there's only 13 on the confirmed list at the moment!

You have PM :y :y :y

Furry muff matey. I'm not that up on campsites despite having a van. It only gets used for OOF & steam rally meets where i pitch up free cos i show the Cortina & my mates do the security/ambulance duties so it's a free weekend away! Only a porch awning so i'll do without for one night.

Anyone who wants to come but hasn't added their name to the list (or given me their details) please do so ASAP as I don't want anyone to be disappointed but we have already filled the first area set aside for us and are taking some pitches the other side of the gravel driveway now!

I just need to clarify a couple of things with the camp site tomorrow... Like the definition of a large tent and number of people included on the pitch but I can say that the prices I have had back today are very reasonable! :y :y :y

I'll post them up once I've confirmed these few items with them (hopefully tomorrow!) and should be able to answer any questions people may have.

All I can add is...... C'mon Jimbob, Loo-Knee and anyone else still thinking about it... It's going to be a good weekend :y :y :y

I am very very tempted, but a 4 1/2 hour drive with the young kids is stopping me to be honest,  Think this one is just tooo far  :'(

Aye, long way, and cross country, no real motorway route.

No motorways to Newent either, but thats not too bad a run.

We tend to stick to a 2 hour approx radius at the mo.

What's a motorway? Nearest one to me is either M25 or M11, both over an hour away! :o :o :o

Mind you, I do my fair share out and about... Only 380 miles yesterday :y :y :y

lazydocker - if you sent me a pm,its deleted due to 50 msg limit on inbox before i saw it :(

me and mrs tb, alledgedly we're both adults, but not everyone agrees!

unsure weather to use large 5 man greenhouse or little 5 man tent, depends on weather. will need leccy, but can share if reqd, as only for convection fridge and some charging

Right then... Prices! Per unit per night, and this includes our discount.

Caravans and Small Tents (Up to 4Meters) - £8
Large Tents (Over 4 Meters)                     - £11
Leccy Hook-up                                        - £3.50
Dogs                                                      - £1
Day Visitors                                            - £2
Awning/Gazebo                                       - £2

There is normally a charge for more than 2 people per pitch of £2 per person per night but I think this will be waived, certainly there is no charge for any children under 14.

The owners have requested that everyone books in at Reception on arrival and they can then issue keys for the toilets and any shower tokens required. The tokens were 50p each last year but that gives 20 minutes of shower time... Long enough to share a token with 1 or 2 other people! :o :o

I'm hoping to be there before 11am on the Friday but will apologise if I have to have a nap in the afternoon as I'm working Thursday night! ::) ::)

I will be putting the Awning onto the Pikey Palace and I'm also taking a cheap Gazebo to extend the awning, giving a nice covered area for socialising if it is required. If anyone else has a spare Gazebo to bring along then feel free as we can then add it alongside mine to increase the shelter :y :y :y

The actual camping pitches we get issued may not all be in exactly the same spot due to the number of Hook-ups required but you can walk from one end of the site to the other in about 2 minutes so you wont be far away! Hopefully we can get enough long hook-up leads and splitters (the site has some prepared for us already!) to get as many as possible in the one area.

If anyone has any questions or wants my Mobile number then say so and I'll try to answer them/supply my number but I'm afraid I wont be posting it on a public forum ::) ::) ::)

I look forward to seeing you all there and am thoroughly looking forward to it! :y :y :y

Well done Paul, great organisation. :y

Just want to mention that I'll be bringing the gas barbie on the Saturday, so if anyone wants to bring BBQ food I'll be more than happy to do the cooking (I've had plenty of practice at previous OOF meets! ::)). Looking forward to it. :y

I'll keep you up to date on the Barbie front... I'm trying to work out if I can get my one from home in (it's proving to be a challenge at the moment!) but if I can you can just cook on that! ;) ;) :y :y

Hi Paul. If i'm the curry King then Bob's the Barbie King. He's proved on several occasions he can cater for an OOF meet so just bring barbie food. I'll make a batch of curry on the friday which i can warm through & boil rice in the van kitchen with gas. I'll bring some barbie stuff too so no one will go hungry! 8-)

Wasn't trying to steal Bob's title... Just trying to make it easier on Friday night but mine is too big to take! I've got a small Gas Barbie in the van anyway so I reckon we'll just have to muddle through with our own smaller Barbies on Friday! :y :y :y

Less that 2 weeks to go now :D

Is there anything I need to do Mr LD, eg pay deposit etc, or is that all sorted? Do I just need to turn up saying I'm Mr XYZ from Omegaowners, and pay up then, and they show me to a pitch?

No deposit required as they agreed they could trust us after last year :y :y

Just turn up, book in at reception and pay in full. Cash or cheque only accepted! They will issue you with a key for the toilets/showers and happily sell you any shower tokens required at a cost of 50p (I think). They will refund any you have left over at the end of the weekend.

Then they will point you in the direction we will be in. I'm planning to be there by 11ish, although I may need a nap in the afternoon ::) ::)

Any chance you'll be able to get the Tech 2 in? The only thing I would like to do is try and resolve the communications issue with pin 7 of the Diag socket

[edit]I have a little bribe for you in the form of Wife Beater if we manage to get it talking :y :y :y[/edit]

Nice one :D

We'll be leaving the wrong end of Northamptonshire around 1:30ish I guess, unless she leaves work early (owed an hour), and I reckon 2-2.5hrs (Haven't even looked where it is on a map yet, but she says around 40m this side of Norwich).

I had planned to do absolutely nothing with cars that weekend - just sit back and chill (much as I intended to at York ::) - but will chuck the Tech2 in the boot. Bring a multimeter with you

I don't plan to do much either... Just a quick play to see if it'll work. If you run shy of space then don't panic, it can wait till Newent :y :y

What time for the quiz? I was going to run simultaneously online as well, so people not attending can have a go at the same time :)

I reckon the actual questions will take 50mins (25Q x 2mins), so thought about starting at 8pm or 8:30pm Sat - most people would have finished scoffing then, so we can sit down and relax with the quiz.  Then we'll persuade Mr Dent to fire up the BBQ again afterwards ;D

In answer to the question... I'm not fussed what time! But I would go for the 8pm option so the brain isn't too fuzzy... Particularly as there is serious potential for it to be an all day session ::) ::) ::)

Sounds like a plan to me :y :y :y

In answer to the question... I'm not fussed what time! But I would go for the 8pm option so the brain isn't too fuzzy... Particularly as there is serious potential for it to be an all day session ::) ::) ::)

Don't think there's any question about that!! ::) ;D ;D

As for firing up the Barbie after the quiz - no problem, that's pretty much par for the course so long as I'm still vertical! ::) :y

Yep... Actually, they'll probably point you in the appropriate direction and say crack on! They want me to try and arrive first to help with the coordination but it may not happen as I've got to go to work tonight.

Hopefully they guys who've turned up today will be pointed in the right direction and left plenty of space :y :y :y

Give them a bell... I wouldn't think it's a problem :y :y :y

If you do go today, as you were one of the few who didn't want leccy (IIRCC) then can you pitch up on the riverbank side of the area please (like last year) so those who need hook-ups can be against the hedge :y :y :y

SWMBO and I should be there by 11 tomorrow and want to get right down the end, near the bridge, to put the social area as far away from the rest of the site as possible :y :y :y

Can't see there being any issues with  turning up any time TBH, except you won't get a key for the toilets. I'll have a word in the morning when I get there if you like?

What sort of time are you expecting it to be?

As for tools... It's up to you  but I think the general feeling is that we can't be bothered to get our hands dirty! And anyway, it's too hot for working!!

Cheers to Paul for the organising (and Emma for putting up with him) and to all who attended for making it a brilliant weekend.

Congratulations to Paul & Emma for organizing & hosting this meet. Paul's sound as a pound & Emma is simply gorgeous (you would'nt believe what she can do with a wet wipe!!!!)
As always good to meet old & new faces. I thoroughly enjoyed myself & from what i could see so did everyone else. A resounding success all round i reckon & definatly a mark on the OOF event calender. :y 8-)
