Title: Oxford meet no.4
Post by: joshwyatt on 16 October 2010, 22:32:32
I had a PM today reminding me it was about time for the next Oxford meet, as I'd forgotten. The 3 previous meets have been excellent.
Ideas on a location and date are welcomed  :y

First meet was opposite me, the following 2 were at cutteslowe park; so more than happy to move the location around a bit.

As you have probably worked out by now I'm turning into a bit of an Omega groupie,so I will be there as usual, dates permitting.
Are you thinking of November or December? :)

i was wondering whether the garage over the road might hire me the place cheap for a sunday meet....  there's plenty of parking along our road, and around the back of our place....    and a pub just down the road, and my infamous culinary skills at hand.....  dunno.....   but it's worth asking....  i know they frequently use sundays to work on their own classic and competition vehicles....    and maybe there'd be an issue with insurance....  but it could at least be worth broaching the subject.

whatever is decided, i'm up for it, now i've got a miggy that's worthy of some attention and adoration....     and i'm determined to be more in evidence in these parts of cyber space.....   (i'm also trying to reduce the hours i spend moderating a work based forum with 85,000+  members)

Places that spring to mind are:

Shotover (no idea what is up there now)
Brill Hill (maybe one for Summer, its bleak up there in Winter)

Doubt neither offer anything over Cuttesloe though :y

Further afield, if thats an idea to attract newer members...
Wendover Woods (Pay nad Display :(, few things to do, but further afield)
Pittsford Reservoir (other side of Northampton)
Willen Lake, Milton Keynes
Stockwell Park, Luton
Must also be places around Cotswolds, Stratford, Henley, Marlow etc etc

Maybe another venue to consider at Stokenchurch. There is a woodland area on top of the hill with public car parks (it's close to the M40 between J6 and J5) and I'm sure the autumn colours will start to look pretty good this time of year too as a backdrop. On Google earth you can see it as Cowleaze Wood
I don't know any of them personally - but there are a few pubs in Stokenchurch along the Oxford Road too for refreshments if you're interested  ::).
Not train set I'm afraid though ...

Cheers
Ian.

I think we need somewhere with sufficient facilities, esp for the ladies.  Its easier, apparently, for us blokes to 'water a tree' ;D
Title: Re: Oxford meet no.4
Post by: TheBoy on 17 October 2010, 20:41:00
That said, to be honest, Cuttesloe has what we need, do we want to 'break' what has started to become a popular meet?
Title: Re: Oxford meet no.4

Think you could be right it seems to work there, although I would'nt mind a return meet at Ashridge only because there was more space available.

I'll second that I think Cuttesloe is a perfect place to meet up.

TB and Ken, you make good points. I quite like it at Cutteslowe, but it's only down the road for me, a 2 minute drive...and I know others come from much further away. So, I thought moving it around may help other people attend.
Would the 23rd or the 30th of this month, both Saturdays be any good? Or do you need more notice?
Title: Re: Oxford meet no.4
Post by: ianu on 17 October 2010, 21:06:59
Fair point about facilities - where is Ashridge ?

Cuttesloe does have 2 entrances however..

What date do we want to aim for - next Saturday afternoon (23rd) or the following (30th) as a starter for 10 ?

Unfortunately for me I can't do any dates until the 13th or the 20th November so it looks like it's a no from me this time round  :( :'(
Title: Re: Oxford meet no.4
Post by: venom on 17 October 2010, 21:21:57
30th is better for me as our Rottie goes in to the vet on the 21st to have his bit taken away  :o :o :o :'( :'( :'( :( :( :( so he will be at home feeling sorry for himself and 23rd is a bit to close time wise.

So, if we pencil into our diaries the 30th, does that fit with most people?
Ken (nitro) it's a shame you can't make it...we could always have another one in Nov aswell  :y

i reckon i might be around on the 30th....  need to check that.... but it seems likely.

if so i will definitely be there.....   what can we get away with at Cutteslowe??   is it just meet and greet and cold sarnies ??  or can we get away with more??

Lee has the mv6 right now for cam belt, cam cover gaskets, O2 sensor move, rear discs, front pads,  and a few other bits...   picking it up again on thursday

I'll have to suffer the ignominy of a tom tom for friday's work trip to cornwall....

Thanks Josh,it would be great to have a Oxford meet No5 in November but if that's not practical then I could possibly attend the planned Kent meet on the 13th November as I think they could do with a few more forum members to support them in making it a regular meet.

Ok then, so let's set the 30th as the date.
12.30 start? As it's getting cooler and darker with each night, I think it'd be best to start earlier.
I'll see what we can organise about food aswell  :y

If you guys meet at cutteslowe park you could get food down the road at mcdonalds-only an idea aslo the railway-oxford model engineers-might not be running
Quainton has a large car park-ROVER P4 club meet there in august. They got museum, restaurant and model railway.
Its on Aylesbury road.I did some welding on a loco there for a preservation society.
Title: Re: Oxford meet no.4
Post by: TheBoy on 26 October 2010, 19:21:17
Quainton is possibly too far and too out of the way to rearrange at this short notice, but worth considering for a meet next summer :y

I know it well, I used to work for BT, and Waddesdon telephone exchange shares the driveway ;D
Title: Re: Oxford meet no.4
Post by: symes on 27 October 2010, 09:51:24
It was only a suggestion for a future meet as you say in the warm wet season we call summer :D
If about Sunday will pop over that way myself. Usually take granddaughter there to run about and play in the park,Which entrance will you use. I use the parking area around the back(easier to exit) and nearer to path ways :y

I'm sure joshwyatt will be along with specifics of when and where (its normally the carpark as you just come in, opposite where they play cricket in the summer).

Excellent pics :y

(If they don't all load for everyone, wait until all that load will load, then refresh - the ones already loaded will come from your local cache, which gives the browser time to download more from the internet. Repeat if necessary)

I'm gutted I never made it down, but yesterday morning I thought I'd get the oil changed before I left to come along, so as some of you will have seen my post about my pending op in Jan my son asked if I could show him how to change the oil so he can do it when I cant no probs I though.
All went well until he tightened up the drain plug as he over tightened it and stripped it, so at 2.30 I was still having my sump plug welded.  >:( >:(
Looked like a great meet  :y which makes me even more brassed off I didn't make it.

..nope - i fly a desk for BT. I just happen to love my cars (and cleaning them  ::) and my photography...

errrr - never been asked to do that sort of photoshoot before Radar. I think we'd need a different venue to the car park though - although we could probably charge for spectator tickets but - would you go the Full Monty  :-*

OK all - happy to ping out a few mails with originals if you want them - but I've also put them up on here where you can view in full screen slideshow mode.
You should also be able to print or download any your interested in.
Obviously a) I assume everyone is OK with this and b) that if you do you respect this is for your personal records  :y.
The password you'll need is:

Really impressed with the shots Ian, does that comment have more value being from a retired pro photographer ???  [smiley=happy.gif]

I could be very interested in that V reg blue miggy, it looks so very well looked after and polished.... 'oooooops! it's mine'  [smiley=embarassed.gif] AND... ' The camera never lies '..  ;)

A collection of excellent photo's, many thanks Ian.
I think we need to make you the official OOF photographer, the salary is our eternal gratitude  ;D

Do you mind if I use the photo of EN52 KSK you took for my avatar? That is if I can work out to make it small enough to put there  ::)

No problem at all Josh - Philnohair is already using one - I'm flattered. It took me a while to figure it out - but unlike me and the nightmare I was having in the early hours this morning  >:( - if you read the very comprehensive instructions on the how to guides  ::)in the first place - it's not difficult  ;).

Bit late for the 2011 calendar Radar - maybe an OOF-WI one for 2012 then - one for the Ladies  :question :question

Thanks Jusme - pleasure to meet you yesterday and very nice of you to say so. You're right it never lies - just a few white ones now and again  ::) ::) (ain't that right Symes  ;)).
To be honest - apart from a bit of tweaking with brightness and contrast to sort out glare (and a splash of cropping to remove the rest of the traffic that was in the car park)  - these are pretty close to the originals. That blue does look lovely doesn't it..

Cheers
Ian.
