Title: Oxford meet no.5
Post by: joshwyatt on 14 January 2011, 15:15:11
I think this would be the 5th one...I've lost track  ;D

Venue, time, ideas...all for discussion. Many places have been mentioned in the past, and I think it's about time for the next Oxford meet.

As always open to anyone and everyone, any new members please feel free to come along.

I concur. Might have to be somewhere warm, given the liklihood of chilliness (despite the positively balmy 14C in deepest Brackley today).

Set a date, I'll see if I can make it :)

Will do  :y
Did you get my PM about Smiths of Bloxham? I wonder if they'd mind a car club meeting there, we'd be paying for their parts etc then we could go to the pub and sit in the warm...or find a venue for the rest of the afternoon.

Josh,

Don't forget my 'photos' idea chap.  Especially if it's somewhere down the road from you that's family friendly.  If some photo on here of what's available / place has, may boost interest in turn-up for the day's meet.  Just an idea  ::).

How about two weeks tomorrow...Saturday the 29th of January? Is that enough notice for everyone? If not, could make it the following week and have it in February.
I did forget all about that Mike, I shall take a trip out sometime and visit some local places and take some photographs  :y

Sorry Josh,

Not sure that would work.  They usually have a greasy burger van, but no other facilities...  ...also, the carpark is often packed anyway.

Looks like I may have other plans for the first weekend in Feb. Possibly.

That said, not sure I can make 29th either ;D.

So the moral is, set a place and time, if I can make it, I will :)

Apologies to everyone, but it seems currently it's just a bit too cold. I've spoken to plenty of the regular Oxford meet members and we can't really think of a nice warm place for a meeting.
Unfortunately, this week I have been rather busy. But, I'll endevaur to get something sorted asap  :y

Thats the problem at the moment...  ...can't see Feb being much warmer, hopefully by March, the temps should begin to rise (though sadly I think I'm probably fully booked in March)

Hi all,

I know it seems we're struggling here - and I admit I've been a bit shy too. Thinking about venues whilst the weather is a bit of a challenge  :( - how about the Oxford Vue Cinema complex ? A corner of the car park providing Oxford aren't playing at home - and some shelter if needed in the complex. If you feel like a challenge we could fit in a ten pin bowling session depending on numbers and lane availability ??
Leaning towards end of Feb to give people a few options to consider - any takers..?

WE of 26/27 is Guffers piss up cambelt do...

19th is a possible for me. No idea about Oxford Utd playing though.

More likely to attend after Gaffers bash, sooo much on ATM bathroom is dragging on blah blah, I'll spare the details, and the car needs work which is getting pushed back. Weekends will be at a premium in Feb personally....not much is going to get done on the cam belt weekend either.  ::)

Might be able to attend, but March is more likely, put it that way.  :-/

OK - just as a point to fix on - Oxford are away on the 19th so we'd only have the Cinema and Bowling crowds to compete with parking for.
SO how about we go for the 19th as the opener for 2011 to test the venue - worst case scenario I get to play with my own bowls    :D.
1pm onwards  :question
Then hopefully as the weather gets more friendly and the evenings longer we can get a bit more adventurous March/April time ( the Go Karts open at the LR Heritage Centre Easter Weekend  ::))

Appreciate we might be a bit thin on the ground - so there not a problem if we want to leave it a month - same venue ?

I think leaving to, say, 12th March might be better, seeing as its Guffers has his meet on 26th Feb.

Wait until they are away, parking will be difficult otherwise.

How about setting a date, if weather looks nice, use the normal park near Josh's place, if it looks wet/cold, your venue?

ie, arrange date now, arrange location when we know weather?

 :y..sounds like a plan TB.
So:
12th if we're desperate to have one in March.
Or 2nd if most can plot that date now and stand a better than average chance of making it (seems a way off - but it'll be here before you know it  :( )

OR -12th March for a try our very best to make it - and use late April for the Go Karts   ::) at LR Heritage Centre ....

If Oxford are at home, thats not ideal. Shaw we wait until they are not at home?

Plenty of time for karts in the year ;)

Think I might pop in on the way back from sussex, assuming no ones got a problem with me turning up in a clapped out Tigra.

Picking up a miggy boot from RobseyMV6 around mid day, and I know from experience they dont fit in the back of a Mig bit will happerly bounce around in the back of a Tiggy.

Chris.

I'll take that as being OK then, anyone mind?, admins, whats the rules for an OOF meet?.

Chris.

Why should there be rules?

Possibly light tinkering, mostly just giving pointers, and talking boolax...

Not sure the retail park owners, or nearby car owners, would be happy with somebody with a rattle can though....

Oh, OK, cool, no rules about the type of car, but what about this dressing in animal costumes bit?, if I turn up dressed as Billy the Goat and no one one else has made the effort Im going to be really peed off.

By the way, the last time I wore my Billy the Goat costume was to a toga party, starting to think I might be slightly dyslexic.

Best not turn up as Dolly the Sheep, as I'm from Brackley, and we have limited entertainment options around these parts....

Those coming up A34, I'm sure Kassam Stadium is signposted. Basically, first Oxford turn.  Same if you're coming South, sure its signposted, its the 2nd turn past the Botley Interchange (1st being the small garden centre).

In all cases, basically follow the signs to Cowley until you get to the Sainsbury roundabout (about 1m (2nd roundabout) from A34), then you're only about half a mile away

Despite GayBoyGixer's constant attempts to upset me, particularly during the curry, I enjoyed the day.

I was childishly amused by GayBoyGixer's attempts to upset the waitress in the breakkie place, and his attempts to upset the waiters in the curry house.

I see a theme here ::)

The one thing I will take away, and I'm sure others will as well, was just what good value for money a high spec Omega really is when compared to a nearly £200k motor.....

Sorry for the delay - it does take me a while to sort and polish these up you know....
I think I've nearly run out of different angles to shoot a brace of black Omega's (I do like black). Space wise we probably didn't make the best use of it - but certainly plenty of it. Quite a subtle back drop as well.
Apologies there's quite a few of these - but I thought they all deserved a view - hope you don't get bored halfway through. If you want any copies drop me a line.
Enjoy - cheers Ian.  :y

..thanks Gents ... photography is my second passion - it's a treat to have some willing subjects and some great material to work with. Honestly it doesn't have to be shiny to make a great picture (see some of the other Oxford meets and you'll know what I mean)

Re the detailing Chris - you can find more than you'll ever need at Detailing World website. I've only picked at the surface of it as after a while there's is just too much advice to choose from and everyone has their own opinion on what's best.
I know you had a brief glimpse in the boot of my car - this is only the tip of the iceburg - it starts way before you put any wax on the car.
If you want at the next meet - or when the venue suits (Kassam would be good as it had plenty of room and we didn't really get disturbed much). I couldn't do a full wash obvioulsy - but a demo with some products should be possible.
I'd be happy to go through some basics and cover some things which even to me sounded scary before I tried them - but if you're into it can be so rewarding - especially on the dark colours. BUT you'd be amazed how much sparkle you can put back in sliver too...
This is a third passion of mine - so I could talk for hours about it too - I wont bore you with it here.

Anyway - must definitely get a pass for the curry next time .....now Josh about that Bentley..... ::)

Cheers
Ian.

...just a little off topic - but in the morning I was actually in Swindon at a Help 4 Heroes open day marking the 1st anniversary of The Wheel Specialist franchise (in Swindon) where I had my Omega alloys refurbished a few weeks earlier.....
Suprise suprise - a few pictures I took of the event...remember it's all about the wheels - so they dominate the subject matter a tad..

Look forward to a we demo/curry next time Ian....  :y

And yes the Rusty bullet got the day off.  :-X although a bit of tlc and he could have it sorted, nothing some decent doors and some time couldn't fix. Poor thing.  :D

Wonder if there's room for a detailing/tarting up/tlc type section? We don't get into paint and bodywork up keep much on here....  :-/. Certainly plenty of rusty arches to sort out.

It needed a run, and there was to be no childish arsing around on the roads, so no need to take the quicker, better handling Silver Bullet ;)

"That Bloody Elite" also needed an emergency repair to be performed in daylight, shame I forgot until it was dark, and I pissed off all the other road users

Its finding good prefacelift doors.  Thought we'd cracked it, but it fell through  :'(

Am I slowly bringing you around to the superiority of the minifacelift?

Don't be soft, move on, take the good bits off and fit to the new one... Or newer one, IMO.

Bit knowing you you'll take the doors of the new one to fix the bloody old one.  :D
Although I do understand an attachment to a car tbh. Even one as (t)rusty as yours.  :-/

It has been suggested about the Oxford meet combining with the meet I am trying to set up in High Wycombe....only 30mins (or less down M40 from Oxford)
Check the thread with poll :y
There are pics showing facillities :y
