Title: VX dealers
Post by: Bourne on 03 June 2009, 17:47:57
Went to the local VX dealer today to buy 3 of the black plastic bungs which hide the plenum bolts on the V6. He said "Like  a lot of Omega bits they're no longer available" Is this true, are parts starting to become unavailable, or do we think he just couldn't be bothered to look because it was such a low value part? Silly I know but it really bugs me every time I open the bonnet & see they're missing!

Don't know if available or not but I'm sure if you ask in the wanted section someone will sell you some :).

I may be wrong but I was always under the impression that manufacturer parts had to be available for a minimum of 10  years after the vehicle went out of production providing the manufacturer was still trading. Any thoughts ? A mate of mine has a 1989 Merc SL and obtained genuine bits within 48 hours, and they were obscure parts as well, an ashtray cover and a trim for the edge of the seat.

That is what I believe, but I suppose that final bit about "still trading" is going to become a very big stumbling block, as it has for Rover owners. :'( :'(

he is talking 'dangle berries', manufactures legally have to make parts for 8 years after the model was discontinued.

Last retail one was around 2003, so thats 2011  ;)
