Title: Jaguar x-type estate
Post by: Turk on 07 June 2009, 22:19:58
Hi, My bro-in-law is looking to buy a nearly new Jaguar estate. Which of the x type is the best to go for ?
He has just test driven a 2.2 sport and loved it. What Car say the 2.0 is a better engine, better fuel economy etc.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Anyone know whether 2.0ltr is better overall that the 2.2ltr jobbie ?
Bro-in-law seems to think What Car say the 2.0ltr is better on fuel etc.
I'd have thought the other way around myself.

the diesel does well over 50mpg the 2.0 litre petrol gets no where near that

In my last job I drove the Diesel autos, I thought that they were very good. Good MPG and comfortable. The X type is a Mondeo in disguise, with todays fuel prices, diesel is the way to go in large cars. The diesel is either a 2.0 or a 2.2 IIRC, I really don't know if there is a great difference, but the 2.0 has been around for years in various Fords and is a durable engine, I think they are chain driven nowadays, so no belts to worry about, just regular oil changes. Decent cars.

My brother has the Diesel (2.0 I think), really gutless very slow off the line.

If the 2.0 is the Ford diesel then avoid it like the plague as they are shite!

Just be very aware of the transfer box issues (apply the brake at above 30mph whilst keeping the power on and listen for clunks), the clutch and DMF disasters (if manual) etc.

both the 2.2 and 2.0's are ford units, the 2.2 is the 150 bhp fitted in the ST  TDCI

The only diesel one I've sampled was the 2.0 IIRC. Thought it was a horrible car. Engine was as rough as a badger's arse. So many people have since said they're great that I was beginning to think that one was a poor example, but poor it certainly was. :-/

We test drove a 2.2 diesel recently. Nice and quick.  Stalled it a few times though as it has a very short clutch travel ::)

I like my 3.0 AWD... Rapid and cornering is excellent

Mr Imber if you mention Transfer Boxes.....I`ll  ;D

I had a courtesy 2,2 Diesel for a few days also on a `08 plate and whilst i liked it and it was Extremley rapid it also had Torque Steer  :o :o

My boss now has a TD and it is very slow in first - I think it was torque limited, his son is using it and prefers his 2.0 Megane
