as above... have bought a nice Omega estate off e-bay which is located in Tadley, Hampshire. which has a suspected head gasket failure. I need to get it up to Rhuddlan, N.Wales. Was tempted to tow it up the road and call the aa out to tow me home in it. anyone with better ideas??

if you do use the AA they tend to look to see if the car is taxed as this is something theyve got wise to, mind you they dont look in detail as i got a car home the same way by putting a valid disc from another car into the top tint of the screen :y, but if its taxed then id go the AA route but they do like you to be with the car unless the seller can help you by saying he is a friend who you stayed with & it broke down there,failing that there are people that advertise on fleabay to pick up motors but dont know their rates,

Luckily its got a bit of tax and test on it. Got a quote from one of those advertising on e-bay and they want £250!! :-[

If you use your breakdown cover, check it will recover that distance, not just 10 miles or nearest garage :y

It's fraudulent - can get you in a lot of trouble, and they can spot it a mile off....

mite get my dad to drop me off down there n stay with it, need to pay for it n sort out the paperwork etc. anyways... like your thinkin tho :y

how can it be fraud when the car has got tax and mot left on it
so the car is perfectly legal for the road
its just broke down (head gasket gone)
so thats what the aa are there for to get you home :y

If you were driving along and the head gasket blew, then it would be within the AA terms of service.
As you ALREADY KNOW the car is broken, it is no longer covered under those terms, and by towing out and "pretending" it has just blown you are making a fraudulent statement.
If it has been blown for any length of time it will be very obvious to the AA that the car has not run recently. There are several options that then present themselves .. including the police and fraud charges
The AA do now react strongly to such matters as all the other members would be paying for your fraud.
Not worth the risk IMHO :( but thats just my view...

post up on here, you will be amazed at how low people will go!! some people are delivering cars near where it wants picking up and will deliver it to you for just the return fuel etc worth a try

I'm sure we've all had simelar thoughts and temptations - however, it really isn't worth the risk...

Maybe wouldnt be so bad if the car was way out in the sticks somewhere and the local AA blokes were used to transporting cars that distance. I know Tadley isn't exactly the centre of the universe but its only about 5 miles from the AA headquarters in Basingstoke. It's a nap that the AA van will be despatched from there and he's is more than likely to do some rudimentary checks before hitching you on the back of a transporter for 230 miles....
Use the RAC instead ;D

Good buy, i was looking at this as only around the corner from me, only need one more mig and that wasn't what i'm looking for, never the less. well done!!
if you have break down cover you could use that or rent a flat bed to bring it home. :y

general consensus is that using breakdown cover isn't a good idea :( can't find anyone around here that rent out flatbeds unfortunately :( best i can do is a trailer but struggling with a towing vehicle then!! :'(
