Iirc the early v8,s had problems with nickasil cylinder lining,if that is the problem it wont be worth the hassle.

i brought a xj6   8 months ago  very good condition  for not much money these cars  are  very cheap , till they go wrong  i have great fun  watching the petrol gauge go down (about 21 mpg ) 
would not touch that one , to much to  fix , thers  plenty about in good condition for well under  a grand  cheers

He is an online dealer,he turns them round quick.
If someone who knew more about them than me advised that it wasnt a major problem I would bid on it but otherwise I will leave it.
