Are the police the same the world over? I have absolutely zero respect for them as they don't deserve any. Not only am I still waiting for one to take a statement from my 14 year old son, who had his arm broken in a viscious assault in school on Friday, and I am still trying to get the South African policeman charged with the murder of my nephew in 2005, but today I met first hand the sheer arrogance and incomptetance of the UK police.
On my way to my first lesson of the day, I was in the next street to my pupil and had just passed a police car parked up - obviously doing tax disc checks by the giveaway sign which said 'tax disc checks'. A ploddette stepped into the road (tempting I admit) and ordered me to stop. I asked him what was the problem and his reply was 'my colleague (a real policeman not this part time schoolboy in a leotard special constable suit) wants to have a word. I replied that I have a driving lesson in 5 minutes and his reply was 'well, shouldn't break the law then mate should you?' WHAT??????????
Then along comes Mr clever clogs. I asked him what was the problem. He invited me to step out of the car, which I declined. Don't need a tax disc then sir huh? was his question. I replied, 'well I don't need two if that is what you are offering. The one I have is quite enough'. Yes, but we don't have one do we sir? ' So, what is that then? ' I replied, pointing at the valid tax disc. Could you remove that please sir. So I did. He looked at the front, the back and then marched up the hill to his car, returning a short while later with it and said, OK, on your way then.
Rude, stupid very assumptious and as usual wrong.
I counted 18 officials there hunting tax disc dodgers. Lets hope I don't need any police cont stables today then.

I think it's time for deep breaths Fin, or you're going to get so wound up, you'll do something..........or someone ;)
I can just imagine you now, looking like my avatar ;D ;D

They are all getting at you know :(
What the hell were they doing stopping you if you have a tax disc :-?
-
i bet they never apologised either -idiots. i was stopped a couple of years ago for talking on the mobile, i admited it but it was a works full hands free unit. the "spotter" insisted it was a black phone and mine was silver!
then i was asked were there any other mobiles in the van, to which i produced my personal one. aha he said do you think we are stupid, i smirked and did not reply. if your wernt you would know to look through the recently received/called log on that phone i replied- to which they did. none showing for that day!
they then asked do you have any other mobile phones in the van -and i lost it and said it was a bloody british gas van not one from carphone warehouse!
that was then i got told they will let me off and be on my way, not after i got a bloody apology i said- their next move was a public order offence so i said they were bozzo's and left. chumps some of them.

oh, ronald if you dont want them stopping you all the time remove the bumper sticker saying all coppers are complete idiots !
-
.......but we must show some respect for the coppers on the walking beats who risk their lives as one recently....... :(
-
I am perfectly calm. Just annoyed at the sheer bloody waste of my time and the outrageous ignorance. Say what you like, the police the world over have a view 'Guilty unless you can prove otherwise'
-
Not quite all of them mate...
Yes, the Police like any other body, have their fair share of clueless idiots, but also they have to deal with ridiculous amounts of beareaucracy and initiatives dreamt up by office bound civil servants who have no idea of reality!
This whole tax disc check thing... while good, I suspect the officers involved would rather be doing other things.
As for not taking a statement yet, don't they have a timeframe in which to respond to allegations??
-
I disagree with the first part. yes they are!
Time limit? We'll find out when the BBC reporter speaks to them in the morning. I haven't even started yet. >:(

Totally agree, coppers should command respect, coppers on the Beat, never seen that in my area.
used to see them all the time when I was a kid and they did get respect, problem nowdays is that half of the pond life have no respect even for themselves so what chance does the local copper have.
If a copper is spotted now, all they get is abuse from dick heads.
The goverment are talking more and more about national service, I say bring it back, it would show these layabouts how to respect, never mind all this crap about, "talk to the offenders", I say give them a back hander, others say violence is not the answer, crap, actions speak louder than words, If I was to do something or commit an offence and I thought I would end up with a wollop or a prison sentance, I WOULD THINK AGAIN BEFORE DOING IT.
A lot of you will not agree with the above, well I have seen the worst people turn around to respect people and life, I was a little git as a teenager, I joined up and came out a far better person.

I am not in cluding him. I have spoken with him a a damned nice bloke. So nice he does not fall into the same category as the others and, as he had a HA he is no longer on full duty hence why I can refer to ALL the others.

Fin, while I agree with you that we do not get the service we need in many aspects of policing, I wouldn’t personally go down the route of tarring all individual officers with the same brush. As someone else has pointed out on here, one lost his life today dealing with some low-life. I respect all those who provide a service until such time as they show themselves undeserving. Of course, that does happen all too frequently these days.
Human organisations, particularly those in the public sector, differ from that of the natural world in that they rot from the top down. So, the problem with police forces the world over (since you mentioned another country) is that the lower levels reflect directly the faults that lie above. Take the police here, for example. It is run by a government that is obsessed with costs and targets, and is administered by chief constables and commissioners who seem to revel in explaining to the media their (personal) edicts on drugs and speeding. Thus, junkies are let off with a friendly warning down south, while anyone doing a couple of miles over the limit in, say, North Wales (did I say that? ;)), is hunted down like a child molester.
Add to that, the fact that there is a huge burden of bureaucracy on any serving officer. Traffic offences generally take up the least paperwork and provide a huge amount of income. Not surprising, therefore, that officers are encouraged (I suspect) to take the easier route.
Add to that the effect of the “institutionalised racism” comments by Macpherson (I won’t go there, but I suspect that many will know what I am getting at).
Add to that the fact that many senior police officers with years of experience have become disillusioned with the job and taken early retirement, meaning that the force now has to trawl around hard for young cadets and select them not according to aptitude and suitability, but rather to PC quotas.
Add to that, the fact that the youth of today, whether police officers or anything else, have a natural disinclination to treat others with respect. (How many times do you see on TV an officer addressing a member of the public as “Mate” instead of “Sir”?).
Etc, etc.
The police force is merely made up of a bunch of humans, but they obviously reflect wider society, so when a society in any state starts to go down the pan, so do the services of that state. True in this country, true in others, I guess.
IMHO, the blame lies squarely with the government and no-one else. Trouble is, we seemingly can do little about it.
