Title: Vauxhall 1.7 DTi Engine
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 19 June 2009, 21:07:25
Anyone know anything about these? As fitted to Astra etc. Are they commonrail? Not the old izuzu unit?

I've read they do about 70mpg - is that for real?!?

Very economical, got one in the combo will run with the fuel light flashing forever I mean forever too  :o
Reliable and easy to work on too, I think they're Isuzu unless you get the CDTi version.

Very good engine's I swear by them (had 3 astra vans, astra car and now combo) all with same engine  :y

They're the newer versions of the engine's in Astra's from MY 07 onwards and 1.9's in Astra's & Veccy C's 05 onwards I think.
The one James was on about is in the Astra G mostly and Combo, corsa's etc  :y

Not bad engines but economy figures can be ambitious... My van was driven hard from start to stop and did 350ish miles to the tank... Although it was lugging a lot of tools :y :y

My old 8 valave seems to manage around 470 to a tank, not matter whether it's driven around town to work or on a run.  :-/

The CDTi range of engines are OK, on a par with other manufacturer's similar sized engines. The CDTi are common rail.  You have to fight the gears a bit to keep it on song though, and power drops off dramatically if the revs are wrong (usual overblown modern diesel)

The pre CDTi range - which I think from memory includes all Astra-G engines - are bloody awful, certainly I find them very frustrating to drive.

It used to do a lot of Idling too... Roadside repair/Breakdown and support for accidents when required so lights, hazards and beacon bar going... Safer to leave it running than the embarrassment of it not starting after ::) ::) ::)

Especially as the local plod liked finding an excuse to take the pi$$... There was a photo of my sign written van on the back of a sign written recovery truck (after shredding a CV joint) doing the rounds of the Trafpol office for about 5 years! ;D ;D ;D

Had a Combo as a company vehicle and when I handed it back at 99k it had only had routine servicing, tyres etc. I would gladly buy one if I needed a van. :y
