Hi all, dissapointed newbie here, i had owned a '98, 3.0 MV6 saloon, for the last 7 years and decided to upgrade (or so i thought) to an '02, 3.2 elite saloon, the ride is spongy and not nearly as fast as my previous MV6, are they different engines, suspensions etc ??, is the elite built for comfort and economy ??, any thoughts on this are appreciated, thanks.

Suspension is stiffer and slightly lowered on the MV6. Not too difficult to retro-fit though.
Your comments regarding performance make me wonder if it's running properly though. A 3.2 should be roughly the same as a 3.0 in performance terms (it has 10BHP more on paper, but an Elite is slightly heavier).

Hello and a very warm welcome to you Wizard! :y
I reckon your 3.2 requires a good major service, with new plugs (twin prong) and all breathers cleaned out! :D :D ;)
-
As Lizzie said, also if your MV6 was Manual an auto 3.2 will struggle to be as fast which is why it may seem slower but you shouldn't really notice it that much :y
-
You will certainly notice a big difference in suspension. I drive an 3.2 MV6 but when I drive my ex-missus 2.5 CDX it feels very spongy by comparison. As already said, the Elite is a heavier car than the MV6 so the 3.2 won't be noticeably quicker, but I wouldn't have thought it would be slower than your 3.0 MV6. :-?

With a slush mobile box I think the 3.2 is a tad slower :-/

As others have said, MV6 did have (slightly) lower and stiffer suspension. No specific mods to the engine. I would expect 3.2 to be similar performance (assuming both were autos).
A bloody good service, including full fluid and full filter, should bring back a few of those lost horses....
Also, worth checking for fault codes.

and check vac system and multi rams are working. Good tech 2 session with one of the guys on here should weed out the Gremlins. Police spec mv6 are all(mostly ::)) manual to make use of all the power.

A facelift Elite is significantly heavier than a pre-lift MV6. It is shocking how much lard they gained. like for like they gained over 50kg and then you have all the electrics of the Elite like the sofa's etc...
Could somebody confirn that they used the same final drive ratios - can't locate my brochures at the mo to check.
You will also get a different sensation from the 3.2 being drive by wire throttle, however this should mean pickup is faster!
In many respects I feel for you as I would far prefer a decent 98 mv6 than an 02 Elite, but you have your reasons. Infact I would far prefer a mint 98 elite than my '53 CDX ;D

Really? :-/
Same engine, transmission, same basic shell. Very similar seats, interior. I can't see how there can be a significant difference in weight between pre and post facelift.
Any Elite will weigh a bit more than the corresponding MV6 due to the extra equipment - about 50 kg or so IIRC. Not a great deal when you consider the car weighs 1700 kg.

According to the handbook ... page 224

On the FACELIFT models .. the difference between auto 3.2 MV6 and auto 3.2 Elite is ......
Now wait for it ... don't get too exited ........ a whole 5 Kgs !!!!
Now if someone has the same data from a pre - or mini - face lift we could do an accurate comparison .. :)
-
I remember that the average increase in weight was well in excess of 50kg difference between pre and post 'lifts - thats a small person strapped to the car.
Amazing that the Carlton GSi was something like 1360kg?

Quad electrodes for 3.2 :y

wow, thanks for all your replys....heres something which may get minds boggling a bit............. i bought my mv6 at 60k with fsh, i owned it a further 7 years and added 65k, no servicing apart from regular oil changes, it still flew like when i first aquired it... that was it, meanwhile my new 3.2 has only 72k with fsh....and as mentioned earlier does seem noticably slower but only in sport mode, feels like its been restricted !!, thanks again for your many comments, may check out a few ideas mentioned, spenny.b

I agree with Lizzie your miggy probably needs a good service just had my 2.6 serviced the first time since I bought it the the difference is amazing it seems much more responsive and quieter for some reason.
Must be costing you a small fortune running it in sport mode, never needed to use it so far
-
I recently changed my omega from a mini facelift elite estate to a facelift saloon cdx, i have to agree the ride quality in the facelift is not a patch on the elite, the mini facelift was so smooth, quiet and well built, the face lift however is harsh in comparison, the bloody door lock pins drive me up the wall and it being a diesel aside is a lot more noisey than the elite, i still am very undecided, the fuel consumption of the 2.2 dti does go a long way to make up for the shortfalls previously mentioned though, just knocking about i'm getting 36.7 mpg and on a run upward of 46 mpg :y

....only use sport mode in certain circumstances.....'chavs' for instance... ;)....but will give the engine a going over...no mention of air filter changes etc in the previous services........

I work in MK, if the servicing has been done by those retards up at Crownhill, assume its never been serviced. They are perhaps the worse
dealer garage I have ever seen.

Is this the lot which got caught out a few years ago for charging for work not carried out ??....

Wouldn't surprise me - they have certainly tried charging for work not done on my car, but refunded straight away when I have noisily proved them wrong in front of everyone.
My colleague got stung for £85 to reset airbag light on a vectra, only they said it wouldn't reset and needed further work. He declined, and I cleared the fault code, and it was all good until he sold it....
