..my gearbox or diff is a bit toasted lol, makes a nice loud munching noise which increases with speed :P
so i can either get a new gearbox which im not doing (1700 is a bit much for the pocket on a 2k car lol) so going £400 second hand (diff is part of the unit) so hence expensive
...i didnt think there was such thing as a broken gearbox at 106k miles lmao!
the autoboxes last 150k
anyway thought i'd post this as something to post as i'v not posted much interesting recently

aisin warmer box on father in laws c70 2.4 t5 turbo. Local auto specialist sees them quite regularly at 35 to 40k. Planet gear and valves in valve body mostly. Load of rubbish, also fitte to some gm, renault, nissan front wheel drive models. But on the other hand is there any such thing as a bullit proof auto box.
-
mines a manual box though chris, i was comparing it's 106k life to a 150k expected life of an auto box lol
-
Well, glad I got the BM now ;D

lol its probably the fact that some right noobjockey had my car before me and hammered the sh1te out of the gearbox/diff
they're supposed to last the expected lifetime of the car!?!
-
anyway, it still gets me about. just with this bloody awful racket lmao!

afaik the volvo autobox is an AW50/55(5 speed) or a TF-80SC(6 speed)

In a bmw they do ;D ;)
-
average life of a "modern"autobox is anywhere between 60,000 to 100,000 after that you are on borrowed time ;D
-
AW 50/51 SN iirc. Def 4 speed......i think.

bog off :P
p.s chris the haynes manual says the AW50/55 is a 5 speed unless it's an older version
-
correction 55 50SN just checked. And def had 1 gear missing. :-)

Mine has done 115,000 so far
-
my old 2.5 had 145k on it and felt as good as new :P
So def not modern. :-)
-
bet you wish you never bought it now?
-
ive just left the volvo T5 scene and it was quite an experience.
my 850 had a rr proven 270bhp through the front wheels and was mental.
very reliable cars but they are well known to have "weak" boxes.
probably not "weak" just the silly power they have to deal with IMHO ;)
-
Junked my last XC70 T5 as the 5 speed box was abysmal - a practical car - but too involved and expensive to run.
Dealer solution to interior light micro switch fault? – change the entire door lock assembly. Sadly this trait was representative of the dealer mentality.
Was the last in a long line of Volvos from the Amazon 123GT to the 760 GLE.

bet you wish you never bought it now?
i do and i dont lol
it easily remaps to 250bhp and for example timing belt is every 90/110k rather than 40k
and it's alot better built than even a facelift omega, still like omegas but just silly little things wrong with them, they do have a nice tank hatch door shutting noise though haha!
might get a 3.0 still just to chop the backbox off of so it sounds like a tank too :P

they arnt really weak gearboxes, the M56 like in mine arent known for not being able to handle the power as the T5's with 250bhp and 350 i think nm of torque use an M56 on the 5 speed and the D5 with 163bhp and 380nm i think has an M56 gearbox, apparently they dont like ramming the gears really fast though like racing shifts lol!

I had that shpe but the V70 get a T 5 goes like stink hardly any slower than the new one but, be prepared for a silly amount of front tyres 3 brand new sets I think in less than a year maybe I was lead footed ;D
-
omg tell me about it..my S60's bad enough coming off roundabouts with tc on in the dry lol!

That is a problem with them they're WWD, mrs still wouldn't mind one though :-/
-
lol i wouldnt mind a V70R :P
apparently the V70R's only available in gaytronic lol!
(just have to get mine remapped) :P
T5's power delivery's a bit pants anyway, the 2.5lpt S60 is as fast to 60 as the T5 with 40 more bhp lol!

Yeah but then the 2.5 begins to go backwards.
-
lol yeah but thats because of the 40bhp difference in peak power, not alot of difference in peak torque.
if i had mine remapped it'd piss on a T5 because i'd get the wider power band and then i'd have slightly more peak power :P
-
...plus i'd have 410nm instead of the T5's 350ish
-
Get a T5 remapped too then see the difference ;D
-
lol theres no point getting both to have them both remapped, i'd rather get a D5 185 ps then remap it to 250bhp and 550nm :P
-
anyway are you comparing a prefacelift 2.3 T5 or the later 2.4T5? lol
-
2.3 :)
-
ok, they remap to very similar torque and power figures :)
