Title: Cheap stainless steel exhaust but.......
Post by: bob.dent on 20 July 2009, 12:06:12
I wonder if they're worth getting?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EXHAUST-VAUXHALL-OPEL-OMEGA-2-6-3-0-12V-24V-ESTATE-509_W0QQitemZ390063473009QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item5ad1984171&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1689%7C293%3A3%7C294%3A50

As I wasn't sure if the 3.0 V6 estate exhaust was the same as the 3.2 V6, I e-mailed them to ask if they could supply one for my car and they said they could and this was the reply.
Quote: "We have this exhaust on the price of 115,00 pounds + the shipping costs 15,50 pounds."

Even though I don't need a backbox this seems too cheap to be true! :-?

Hmm. That talks about Omega A (Carlton / Senator) and also 12 valve engines. I don't think it'd fit an Omega B.  :'(

That's what I thought (although it does say 24V for the 3.0 V6 Omega) which is why I e-mailed them with the details of my car - make, model, year, engine etc.
Might have to send another e-mail to make sure they realise I need Omega B, but having given them the year of my car it couldn't possibly be an Omega A.

Just had a reply from the seller and this was their reply:-
"Hello,
We only have the french auction, we can put on ebay in english version for the reason of ebay's limits. We have to wait 30 days to have possibility to put this exhaust for selling."
 http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220389048689&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT
Apparently, the first enquiry I made wasn't the correct one for my MV6, but they have one available on French fleabay at 115 Euro's. I doubt very much if it's stainless steel though but still very cheap.

Looks like a 24V straight 6 Carlton/Senator exhaust in that picture - which really won't fit an Omega/Catera of any description.
Having both cars, I have laid both systems on the floor - many differences.

One thing I will add - we bought a "cheap" system for our Omega and cost us twice as much as it didn't last a year and was such a poor fit that it rattled on the bodywork in three places - best it would fit though.
Worst still, the replacement system is a Walkers -it fits properly and was cheaper than the "cheap" one! :-?
Buy cheap - buy twice ;)

Or put a complaint into ebay for a refund for a mis advertised item.

it looks like a V6 system to me, I have a spare one from the cats backwards and all pieces look the same as the 2.5.  The 3.0 has twinn tailpipes.

I found out from bitter experiance the the 2.5 back box will not fit a 2.6 saloon as the tailpipes are not long enough they dont clear the bumper on the facelift, which means exhaust gasses are not clearing the back of the car properly. the garage I bought my car from fitted one when the car failed the MOT on exhaust have since changed it for 3.2 back box

If only that was for the omega b, I'd be buying 2!

James, if you look at my later post in this thread, the seller updated my query. They do have a full exhaust system for the Omega B but only on their French E-bay site at the moment, but UK buyers can order from there.......which is ok if you speak French!! ::)

http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220389048689&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

They will be putting this on the UK site in around 30 days time apparently.

I had a look in his shop for a 2.2 saloon and could only find the estate version so I sent him a message asking him if he stocked one for the saloon...............he has just listed the item on Ebay Uk and supplied a link..........

If you want a s/s exhaust for your peachy Mig Bob I suggest you ask about for independent places in your area. Up here it's rebel powerpipes but you will have an equivalent near you. You do'nt have to de cat or be as loud as mine if you don't want to. The idea is they custom make a system to your personal taste so you can keep it quiet as standard, & choose your tailpipe exit etc.
Mine was £340 which sounds alot but it's a lifetime guarantee, any squeaks/blows/rattles are sorted f.o.c. & you get a little service book to take in for a free check over & stamp every year. How much does a full V6 system cost from Kwikfit etc. & how long will it last? 2 or 3 yrs time you will be buying another. :y

Just a thought for Bob to look at the custom made option as oppose to a mainstream set up. Rebel Powerpipes are well regarded here but you can have silent if you like.
Sure there's a place near him that may be worth a look. :y

Thanks Guy, I may well try a local independent supplier
as I'm a bit dubious about buying from abroad especially if there's a problem with it. I had a PM from Robbo299 who gave me the name of a place in Surrey, so I'll probably get them to give me a quote. :y

S/S exhausts make sence if you intend keeping the car.

When I bought my 1st Omega I saw a complete system on Ebay inc the cats for £100 and it was local so I bought it.  had Miggys now for 3 years and still not used the spare exhaust.  (will be going on for the next MOT (parts of at least))

But if the Elite needed an exhaust I whink Stainless would be the 1st consideration.

As said, a good independant will custom make for you whether you want a hooligan system or quiet as standard...are'nt all the best things in life tailor made?
I can just hear Bob's baby sounding as cool as it looks!!! :P 8-)
