Title: polishers
Post by: Andy B on 31 July 2009, 17:07:44
Any recommendations on what to buy or not buy in the way of grinder type polishers? What heads to use etc etc ......

I have/had a cheap Halfords polisher that I've just killed on my Astra shed. I'd nearly finished where was a pop from inside. I opened it up and the little 5A fuse had popped. Not having a 5A that small I put in the largest I had .... 2.5A It popped staright away without even trying to turn ..... I think it's Donald Ducked.  :(

A lot of trade valeters use something similar to this (1st one I found)

Thet take the coarse and fine screw in foam heads, plus they have a rubber disk to put sanding pads on or they can have the sheepskin mop fitted and tied over the rubber pad.

left/right handed/  Plenty of power.  The one I had was 2 speed and I think it was 900/1800 rpm.

if you get one use good quality componds etc if thats what you end up using it for.

maybe a bit OTT for polishing.

If you put a lower rated fuse in it is likely to pop. Try a correct rating fuse first.

I've got a Halfrauds 240V Random Orbital Polisher and find it pretty good... Depends if you want it for plain polishing or for compounding/t-cutting

I will before I condem it completely, but it was a 'motor fuse' which will allow higher current draw to start with to let a moror run up to speed, but it blew straight away ......  :-? so I think it's dead.
