Before shooting me down, please understand that in it's current state (sat on the drive with a big hole in the engine), this MV6, while a very tidy facelift, is worth next to nothing. So I've got nothing to lose.
Basically, I've got another engine for it - only, it's from an earlier model.
It will fit (I've seen it done) - and work fine, it's just, in an ideal world, not best practice.
Reality is, the car's worth so little, even perfectly running, there is nothing to lose.
On a brighter note -
Its' still a 3.0 V6 - the engine has only covered 34,000 miles until the car it was in was written off at the rear.
To be honest I believe it. The guy I bought it off removed it himself, and knew the car's history. I've no reason to doubt him. It was destined for a kit car, but he never got that far.
It's all extremely clean, but hasn't been "cleaned" if you get me. Genuine plugs, genuine camcover gaskets (I can see the GM stamps). Been kept in a garage for some time but turns over fine on the pulley.
In addition, it comes with all the sensors, Ancils, and such, even the PAS pump etc.
He's even put things like the exhaust downpipe nuts back on the thread, and kept all the loom tidy and intact, it was a VERY tidy removal job.
Here's for the really good part -
It also came with the MANUAL gearbox, which has also only done 34k - R28 box.
If that wasn't enough , he threw in the pedals, and pretty much most of what I need to make it a manual apart fromt he prop!!
The cost was £200 for the lot, and it only cost me a tenner to collect in LPG. By the time I flog the old AR35, and the spares I don't want off the old engine, I will have nearly made back the cost of the new one!
Unlike someone here, who once fitted an earlier engine to a facelift - I will do it properly. The motor will go on the engine stand, and have all new gaskets, especially exhaust manifold ones, and a cambelt kit. Even though it's low miles, it's silly not to do some jobs, while it's on the stand.
The droop plenum will be fitted as per usual.
As I say, not ideal, but it's practically a free engine, and will get my MV6 running, so who cares? 8-)
Shouldn't this be in the front of the car?? ::)

Nice deal :y
What's the story with someone not doing it right?

Basically a member (no longer around) did an engine change - but just fitted the engine without checking/changing important stuff, and the wiring was a bit untidy - just a quick fix basically.
The engine fitted was also poorly and I think came out again
I think Holy Count (I may be wrong, may be someone else) owns it now

Fair play. The amount of swearing and slices to my hands I've done while doing the gaskets and oil cooler on here... when I come to put an engine in the dead 2.6 I'll be doing as much as I can with it on the deck.
Best of luck with the transplant :y

I can't see what the problem is James, a V6 3.0 is the same thing whether it's from a pre facelift or facelift

Agreed - but, the older one uses slightly different loom, has the square connectors, short plenum, earlier cambelt kit, and a few internal changes I believe....
I agree though - reality is, it will slot in and work fine :y

Just refit the later bits to the older block. Your accelerator cable for instance will be too long if you use the short plenum ....

Must be a very early engine, seeing as its lacking the A/C compressor ;)
-
Swap the loom and sensors over to....(the throttle pots etc are different)
Obviously beiong the earlier engine, it has the poorer oil pump and followers.

Seeing as all Elites had Aircon from launch (although not climate) The 3.0 was only fitted to Elite and MV6....
Does it have the extended plenum?
The engine must have come from x-plod? with 34k miles :-/

If it was destined for a kit car, could well be the P.O. removed the air con compressor and changed the belt.

If they did, then they did more than that as it has the non-aircon bracket type.
I assume the engine is not a 2.5?

Nope, X30XE...

Few questions Mark -
1) Seeing as the engine will be on a stand, and very accessible - is it worth putting a later oil pump, later lifters, and T Vents in? i've always found the old setup quite reliable too, but I'll be guided by you
2) The loom - is that 100% needed? The reason I ask is because
a) The loom on the new engine is for a manual, and I'm converting to a manual box, so it would be neater?
b) The loom currently in the car, has some wiring issues which I can't easily trace..
Any input much appreciated :y
Jaime - to answer your question, the AC compressor bracket is on the engine, so looks like someone's taken it off...

Oh - I thought it had the bracket :-[

Do you need an aircon bracket!
mine is going in the bin, I will be fabbing a new pully bracket without the aircon.
Swaps may be ! ::)
Mine is off an ex plod 99
-
If it will work, then sure!
Mine does look like it has a bracket for the pump, though... :-/
Hopefully Sunday, it will be on the stand, and I can have a proper look around it...
-
I will put a photo up tomorrow
can you view .dwg or .pdf files?
I have drawn a new bracket in Autocad, I will post it up, it has the fixing hole centres so you can check youe engine.
