Evening All.
Just had to tell you the sort of MPG im reguarly getting on long journeys and see if its the norm.
Mines a (ex The Boys) 99/T 2.5TD Elite Auto(AR35) saloon which has been chipped.
Now I understand the chip will have made the trip computer slightly out but on A road and motorway jouneys of 250+ miles I am reguarly getting 52mpg.
Even allowing for a 10% error that still equates to over 45mpg. Thats bloody amazing in a car as big as this with 300KG of tools in the boot.
I don't drive it like I stole it or anything, but I don't hang around out of junctions and sit at 80 on the motorway.
Had a 1.8 Corolla Verso before and never got over 37mpg, although that was a company car and I wasn't paying for the fuel which may explain that. ;D

That's bloody good, your car must be running tip top to get that sort of mileage, well done
-
i can safely say TheBoy never got that kind of mpg ;D
I get 29/30 average at the moment, but in colder weather its 25. My commute is only 11 miles so most of the journey its not hot.
On a run to holland fully loaded can average 34/35
-
I get 24 local from my tractor and about 34 on a run, but I do like to play a bit, ;D
-
I get very good value on a run, but spend a lot of miles in town nowadays. I have never heard of the chip putting the comp out.
-
Average of 35 round town in the BM, 55-60 MPG on the motorway :)
-
You could always check consumption the old way, brim tank, zero odometer, drive a few days, brim again & work it out..
-
My average is running at about 23 mpg with little motorway working at the moment, and too many A road jouneys in the congested south east 8-) 8-) 8-).

......
Your car mus be the slowest car to heat up in the world then :-?. I'd consider 11 miles to be a fairly long comute and the car to be warmed up in the first couple of miles. :y

2.6 V6 auto........
Averaging 27 mpg over a month, with a daily 18 mile round trip to work, tootling around at the weekends and a monthly run over to Caernarfon in North Wales......,
Car warms up within 5 mins easily in the mornings.........!!!
Can get up to about 40 mpg indicated on the display if I drive a 60mph going to wales.....
Happy with the overall though considering the joy of driving it...........!!!!
:y :y :y :y

42 urban & easily 50+ on the motorway from my DTi & that's giving it some occasionaly :y :y

I managed to get high 30s (genuine calculated, not fuel computer reading) out of it on a run driven not exactly like Miss Daisy, but not exactly ragging it either.
Being an auto, economy below 50mph when the gearbox goes into lockup isn't great.
That said, I would be impressed if anyone got a genuine 40mpg average from any auto Omega, so may be worth doing a manual check - eg, as soon as fuel light comes on, pop in 22.7l (5g) and see how far you get before it comes on again :y
How is the old tractor, we miss that car
-
I'm fairly surprised that mine is averaging 30mpg at the moment. On a trip to bonnie Scotland I got 35mpg with 4 adults and luggage.
I find it's worse if I don't let it warm up before getting on the M27 though, and the computer says it's more economical at 85mph than at 70mph. Somehow I doubt that the local constabulary would accept this as an excuse though!!
-
According to my OBC I am getting around 24mpg, thats a 25 mile round trip each day to the office with a combination or rural, A road and 6 miles of motorway, having just been convicted of speeding and getting 6 points I am driving like a vicar!!
:(

I'm averaging just under 30 round town and recently got 44 average on a 1200 mile round trip to scotland but that includes local pottering whilst up there.

Takes a good 4/5 miles to heat up fully....

yeah im about the same in my dti :y :y
-
2.5 v6 - 25.8 since the beginning of the year.Drive it like miss daisy these days, but very little motorway type use.Its replacement will have to be much more economical,so a nice car with LPG or a diesel engine,or a hideous little shitebox with a small petrol engine. :'(

DTi is pretty good on slow and urban journeys due to manual box - autos can sap the mpg below 50mph
-
on my way back from buying my estate i got 38mpg i was chuffed it was allmostly motorway though
-
I drove a 2.5TD with a manual box on a 25 mile journey yesterday which was about 6 miles of motorway and the rest A roads and according to the computer I was getting 51mpg :o
I am considering selling the MX5 or Rover diesel and keeping this ;)
-
on a 240 mile run to cardiff, so mostly motorway, I got a masseeve 23mpg. :-/
that was on gas, in a 2 litre estate loaded with an average of 4 blokes an a bit of luggage going at the speed of most traffic.
its hard to work out mpg with dualfuel but generally it's always in the 20s!

3.0 has shown 34 mpg occasionaly on a run, whats the LPG equivalent against petrol I wonder?
Must be 60+ as im only paying 45p a litre at the moment :)

I pay 42p at home but had to fork out 55p closer to Wales. :o :o even more annoyed when it was 52p 14 miles later! >:( ;D
Still, 10p a mile is ok for me :)

You wouldn't want it Jaime, its a cat D and besides that, after having a new genuine clutch, CV joints, cambelt and pump belt, water pump, decated and chipped, I think she will make me sell the MX5 first :'(
-
Both our 2.2's are thirsty round town, loads of local journeys of 3-4 miles each way but very good on motorways at 65 to 70mph :-/
Overall don't think either are brill on fuel but neither do many miles so not a major worry :-?

im lucky to get anything close to 10mpg in my evo fq400

I wouldn't have thought you would buy a FQ400 to drive it off turbo though!

its the fastest best handling car ive ever been in,well worth the running costs! only have it out the odd sunday, provided its dry(not many sundays)
-
Wife gets around 18-19mpg around town (lots of hills). I have seen 34mpg on the computer on a long trip to Gatwick at a steady (cruise) 75mph.
Have also seen 7mpg (instantaneous) for 10 miles towing the caravan up a long climb.

7.1 I think is the lowest it goes to, I've seen that too, where 1st is a bit low & 2nd is a bit too high a gear! ;)

How can 2nd possibly be too high a gear. Bloody pikeys >:(

Depends on the hill & the amount of stuff SWMBO has packed ...... and whether there's some bugger behind in an oil burner trying to get passed! :y :y

However the car is laiden/packed, it should be capable of easily maintaining traffic speed.
Remember, the speed limits are a target, not a guide :P

Hi all, I've got a 15 mile drive to work, 8 of which is on dual carnageway - my average is 28 mpg on the computer over a week, tends to sit at around 34 on the fast bit of my run - don't like to look at the figure around town :o
Having said that, for a big car, it's not bad at all - my 2 litre 5-cylinder 155 bhp Fiat was only slightly better... :)
