hello i have just bought a vectra 2.0 diesel and when i got it home (was towed on rope as it is catd salvage ) but when driven it smokes BAD but then sort of clears itself again also there is plenty of power,(well it feels like the 100hp or so it is meant to have) it has 120000 miles and starts on the button oil light goes out instantly and the eml goes out and stays as it should ,after the smoking i switched it off and then restarted it later and it was missing then sort of clearing it self again and was smoking a fare bit what do you guys think i first thought turbo but it has plenty of power so maybe not what about injecters or pump? any help appreciated

I would say pump.
-
when it's drivable - take it out and rag the nuts off it ;D
-
thanks for the reply guys is there any way of being sure it is the pump? as for ragging the nuts off it i did that and it goes fine but as said after starting later it was missing and smoking again and the smoke is blue so to me that is oil but if it was the turbo i would thought it would have no power :-/and would,nt cause it to miss, anymore thoughts welcome

What colour is the smoke . Is it black or pale blue ?
If pale blue it sounds like similar symptoms to what I had recently on a Turbo'd diesel engine and it was diagnosed as the Exhaust recirculation valve being faulty or dirty. I cleaned mine but it made little difference so i'm replacing it today .

PS sorry didn't read your last post thoroughly re blue smoke .

Well thought i'd give you an update .
I fitted a new EGR at great expense and it was no better really although I tried to wish it better ...... :'(
However I removed the fuel filter to check it even though the dash indicator for water in the filter hadn't illuminated .
It was full of brown gunge . I remembered that I had dosed the tank and system with a Wynns anti smoking additive (500ml )prior to the vehicle being tested which looks as if it has dislodged muck in the tank which has found it's way into the fuel filter partially blocking it.
I fitted a new filter ,bled it and the engine is pulling like a train now with no problems and plenty of power.
So , replace the fuel filter first. :y
