Title: What to use on a KA sump pan gasket
Post by: ricardo1500 on 29 September 2009, 16:18:52
Hi All
I've got to change a KA sump pan and need to know what type of sealant to use (if any) on the new gasket and rubber seals.  The new gasket is genuine Ford part and is of ther cork type...there is also a rubber seal to go either end of the pan where it goes over the crank. The guy at Ford reckoned they all just go on dry.....but we all know about main dealer mechanics.....any help good advice would be great as I only want to do this once!!!

Cork gasket? :o Those were the days.

They should be OK without any other sealant IMHO.

Only place you might need to add some sealant is if the gasket does any sharp bends at the interfaces to the bearing caps at each end or if there are interfaces between oil pump / oil seal housings and the block at each end where the gasket has to bridge a gap.
