Where my mother lives, she's 99 by the way, the Water Board have been replacing the main in the road. They finished on Tuesday.
Yesterday, a man in a suit rang her door bell, and said, I'm from the Water Board, we've got a problem, I need to turn your water off. She asked him for I.D. and he said, I haven't got time for that, it's an emergency, you'll be flooded out. He pushed past her and headed for the kitchen.
She was highly suspicious and kept questioning him, he pretended to turn the water off under her sink, and after a few minutes, said he'd got to go, and turn other house's off, got up and ran out of the house.
Then she discovered his ba@@ard accomplice had stolen her pension money out of her handbag.
Torture an mutilation is too good for these scumbags.
Sorry to sound off. >:(
I suppose the good thing is they didn't harm her.

Yes, she gave the police an excellent description, she's still sharp as a button, despite her age.
Normally, she doesn't let anyone in without an I.D., but this guy pushed past her.
The guy whom she didn't see, the one that stole the money, dropped a wedding photo, with names and a date on the back. The SOCO team were able to get good prints off it, but fear it may have been left deliberately, to offer a false scent.

As if crime isn't bad enough, to target the elderly is downright despicable >:( tinkers!! >:( >:(

The sad thing is im not surprised :(

Glad your Mum is unhurt. Despite this, she may well need a lot of reassurance to restore her confidence again. Hope some house to house will unearth ongoing descriptions of the grotbags. >:(

Awwww that is terrible total scum bag.
We Are having our road dug up at the mo and the Gas people said dont let anyone in who does not have a pass and if your iffy about them they gave a phone number to everyone to ring. Good To hear they are atleast trying to stop the scumbags prey on people

Put away for terrorizing the elderly? Probably a caution or community rehabilitation order, whatever that is.
The problem is there is no deterrent for this scum. They know they will get slapped wrists and see that as part of their job!! Even a policeman is no deterrent, they just stab them if they get in the way.
They should make prisons more like army prisons. When I was in the army I was given a 14 day sentence for disobeying a direct order. I lost every liberty and all my dignity, it was the worst 2 weeks of my life. However the experience was such that I would never do anything to end up there again.
I am glad your mum is ok, but keep an eye on her, as reactions to these experiences can manifest a few weeks after the event. I presume the insurance will cover her financial loss. If not then I would gladly be the first to offer £5 to any OOF whipround.

Sorry to hear about your mum AA.
Slightly off thread but still on topic: In our local rag, the Wakrfield Express, there is a 'Reports from the courts' section each week. You can read about all of the miscreants and their evil deeds. But you'd be very hard pushed to find even one that received a custodial sentence.

Sticking with off thread but agreeing with STO123 - an enlarged cutting was stuck on our workshop notice board of Wigan's version of above. A certain person at work who has a reputation for getting off things scott free managed to escape a driving ban despite the fact he left the scene of an accident ... and other things I can't remember. He received 8 points & a few hundred £££'s fine but he already had 11!!!!!!!!! How the F*** did that happen?

Yes she is a little shook up, but, in a funny sort of way she's more annoyed with herself for how stupid (her words) she was in going to the door first, before she looked out of the window, which she normally does.
If she doesn't recognise the person at the door, she tells them to go away.

Very sorry to hear of your mum's loss of her pension. :( :(
My parents live down South and recently there has been a spate of similar things happening. Lots of adverts in local press and the like but still they manage to get away with things.
My Dad recently answered a phone call from some blagger trying it on with ' Hallo /mr...., My colleges and i will be in your area and will call to see your gas appliances.'
Dad let him carry on with his speech and tried to get a little more matey with Dad. '....is it Mr... or what does the E. stand for? Ernest?
Dad said well my friends call me .... but when i was working it was Superintendent.
The telephone line went quiet and there was a loud click. ;D ;D ;D
Dad did not say he was an ex Policeman and he was a Superintendent but of an Engineering works. :y
Hope the blagger got the shock and kept well away from Mum/Dads area.
Keep the faith and do not let the ba*tar*s grind you down. :y

Sorry to hear about your mum, I'm glad she is o.k but as has been said keep an eye on her cos this type of incident can effect people weeks later, lets hope not. Bast*rds like that should have there hands cut off >:( As for I.D in this day and age of desk top publishing it would not be to hard to knock up an I.D card thats can be passed as genuine, especially when used on the elderly who by nature can be over trusting. If in doubt its always better to leave them on the doorstep and phone the office in question from a number obtained by yourself not one given to you by the visitor. A bit incovenient for the contractor I know but genuine officials will not mind

scumbags need to be tortured if i got hold of them i would kill them little bastards, probably some little smackhead, who wants smacking in the f**king head, hope she's o.k. will be shankin' a little, what ever happened to respect for older people, again hope she's fine ,all the guys on here should get together and find them and give them a good kicking

You know what, they should give these pond lifes to us, let us deal with them, they say, dont take the law into your own hands but when it happens to family all I want to do is give these people a good kicking and more.
99 years old, fantastic age, this age generation did a hell of a lot to give our generations our standard of living and freedom. We owe everything to these people and when pond life move on them there should be very, very long sentences for them, even thats too good for them.

i think they should bring back national service and stick these scumbags in the armed forces, that would seperate the men from the boys,i agree the older genaration ,most frought throw the second world war so these scum can walk round thinking they own the place, whats the world coming to >:( >:( >:(

Outrageous. Shoot the tinkers!
Would your mum accept a small donation from me by PayPal? A few bob from me is nothing, but maybe if a few others joined in we could make this near 100 year old lady feel a little better?

That's very kind of you, but no, she's fine Fin.
It's not the money she's worried about, she's more angry with herself for being so stupid.
The main thing is that they didn't harm her physically.
-
Sorry to hear about that AA >:( >:(., NOT GOOD AT ALL, We have them all round here at the moment replacing all the mains in the roads/footpaths, there just about to start in my street.

I don't wish to detract from this post, but as per my thread about my son, people are getting away with things because they know that if they get caught they will at very worst get a break in a butlins (well they call it prison, but as my brother is a SPO I know what goes on).
In South Africa if you climb over my fence and my dog bites you, good. The police will come and beat you up too.
In UK I get charged because MY dog bit you ON MY PROPERTY!!!!!
Who the hell made these rules up? At what point in time did any of us, the voting public, acceot that this is OK? Everyone whinges about but nobody is actually doing anything about it. Well that is about to change. Watch this space.

UK justice system works around old precedents, so some stupid thicko jury makes the decisions....

Agree with the sentiments but why put an already over stretched armed force to look after tw*ts that either should have been drowned at birth or properly parented.. :o
The armed force is the fall back of society in the wrong place at the wrong time. They also are tied up in red tape and with the general lack of self discipline would have a big problem trying to get the git's to do any thing. >:(
I know from personal experience how just one bad apple can turn a whole arm team on its head. Would you let some disenchanted Ned loose with a rifle. No it falls back to parenting and the whole education thing. :'( :'(

This kind of crime, Burglary Artifice (to give it its correct home Office classification) is not uncommon and often appears to be carried out by the travelling fraternity with Irish accents. Because the victims are usually elderly and often confused it’s very difficult to catch anyone. It’s very opportunistic and when several years ago when we had the great Channel 5 retune of video recorders it provided the scumbags who carry out these crimes opportunities beyond their wildest dreams. >:(

What is this country coming too? I am not all that old but i do remember when we left the door unlocked all day and night with no fear of anything nasty going off. Now in this day and age we have to keep our car door locked for fear of being robbed. If you remember i posted telling you about some HOODIES who tried to pinch my dads car from his own drive in broad daylight, but this takes things another step further >:( Give the bas*@£ds a propper sentence for the crime they do, not a slap on the wrists....................................................ooooooooooooooo it makes my blood boil

[start rant] Sorry Peeps, needing to vent some steam here..... Not wanting to take any kind of moral high ground, but....... To paraphrase (and probably badly misquote) the Bible, 'You Reap What You Sow....'
In this world which gets progressivly more PC, parented by those with declining personal and family standards, assisted by selected but influential Social Workers, Teachers and Medical Professionals who look for an alternative (or easier) diagnosis of their inabilities to control the now state funded, financially Socially Secure offspring of those who happily hold out their hands for unearned cash and gleefully pocket untaxed cash at the same time - we have lost the corporate plot........
I am neither a Victorain nor a prude but at some previous time there was a sense of value, fair wages wages for fair work and no handouts or general sponging off the State. This, to my mind, is now very much lost and we, as a country, are in a very downward spiral.
Respect is lost all round, in both directions between parents and offspring. Stop the open door policy and protect those born and bred here and within the Commonwealth who are willing to work (and I mean ALL, not some Enoch Powell style ranting....) who see the UK as a soft touch who take obscene advantage of our Social Security system..
And breath........ [/rant] :-[

Agreed.
There are two other problems that are not mentioned:
1) Drugs - this is a major problem, believe me.
and
2) A youth culture that cultivates the impression that since they are young they therefore own the world. Made worse by that stomach-churning Cool Britannia rubbish. which TB started (NO, not The Boy!).

I was amazed to walk down the high street in the early evening one weekday a few weeks ago. A group of 3 teenage girls were hanging around outside the off licence smoking. A WPC walked over to one and politely asked if she could have a word. I have never heard language like that which she received in response. Totally unprovoked. She could have been asking for the time for all they knew.
When I was that age I had been taught to respect others, especially those in authority. I probably hadn't been on the planet long enough to have worked out for myself why that was right, but I knew that bad things would happen to me if I didn't and that worse things would happen if my parents found out.
I used to moan about how the country is run but that's irrelevant now. Nothing's going to be fixed by a change of government or policy. The country's rotten to the core and I think the only thing that's likely to fix it is a re-run of the battle of britain, to remind people that nothing is an absolute right in life, and that sometimes you have to make sacrifices for what you need, rather than expect it all on a plate, and raise hell if it's not to your liking.

It is disgusting to think that people would do such a thing... How would they feel if someone did that to a Parent or Grand Parent of theirs??
Your Mum was very Brave and Thank God she wasn't hurt..

...... totally agree, if i or my mates did any thing wrong, scrumping or doing something stupid. Not serious stuff with knifing or robbing old ladies. The local 'bobby' would 'have a word'. That would take either the spoken word, the written word on the end of his boot or that he would be round to see 'yer Dad'.
All had their merits. If the boot up the back side was given and you then told your Dad then you could expect another from him. :-[ :-[
In my 'previous life' if some little scroat came in front of me and played the ' i am too Young for you to do any thing too' card ::) then i would send them onward to the adult court if they wanted to be treated like an adult and did adult crimes then why should i stand in the way of their development. :question :y
