Title: Fancy led tail lights? Me too!
Post by: zYx on 21 September 2009, 20:15:14
I am fancy led tail lights, unfortunately I don't like lexus style lights and I'm thinking of an original look tail lights with led. Similar to these:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfX7ajKFF_w

or these  :D
http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/6677/omegacled.jpg

Does anyone know of any website with custom tail lights or leds which I could eventually custom build tail lights myself like they did with calibra?

Do you like the Omega A6  ;)

I agree with you. It doesn't look nice at all, but if I ever will try to build something like this I want to do it properly, something like the ones from Audi A6 Avant.
I really like A6 led tail lights.

If you want LED lights, then just buy the LED replacements for the standard filament lamps you currently have.
That way you'll get all the benefits of LED, but without the headache of it looking like a spotty 17 year old chav owned the car before you.

Only a lot of the LED cheapie shite available is, err, cheap, and about as reliable as a filament

The problem is that I can't find any omega led lights and even if I find something, they're all lexus style, chrome rubbish ;/

Guess that depends on where you buy it from.

I'll put my head above the parapet ......   ::)
I think he's made a good job of the calibre led's, a better result than Audi have made of the back of the A6.  ;)  ;)  ;)

Untill the likes of BMW started to use led's at the back of their cars, I always thought the benefits of them sounded dubious, but after seeing them, they react so much faster than an ordinary filament lamp.
VW's efforts at led's results in indicators that sit inside round brake/tail lights which are difficult to see properly during the day especially if you are not directly behind the car.

Never had a problem seeing/interpreting them myself, but you should bear in mind that LED's are directional (ie, you only see them at full brightness when directly in front of them).

I lot of VAGs have difficult to see indicators, as the brakelights overwhelm them.  How the hell that ever got approved I'll never know

Why am I not surprised!  ::)

But as I said & you confirmed, unless you're directly behind, they're not always obvious.
And as Jamie says, the brake light/indicator could be better designed.

The reason I have never had a problem with them is because I know what they look like when you are anything other than directly behind them and can compensate accordingly.

It's not a special skill, most drivers out there are compensating for something or other every time they get behind the wheel.

I thought I only noticed this. There are more cars with "invisible" indicators, including japanese cars... and I was thinking the same, how that got approved...

Oh the irony  ::)

There's plenty I could come back with Andy, and there are no doubt one or two that are waiting with baited breath for me to do it.

However, the fact you felt the need to start throwing direct insults so early on tells me all I need to know.

:-?  :-?   :-?   :-? I merely pointed out his perseved superiority complex in the first place.  3 people comment that VW/VAG led indicator aren't the easiest to see when the car is braking but of course mr Watt could see them perfectly and pointed out the bleeding obvious ie you need to be directly behind them!!!
So .... if you were to turn your attention towards Mr Watt for the fight, he's usually more obliging ...... past posts have frequently shown that!!!!  >:(

My "perceived superiority complex"??
If anybody is perceiving something that isn't there, I'd suggest it was you mate.

You need to read back.
At no point in time did I state that I could see them clearly if I wasn't directly in front of them, I said "Never had a problem seeing/interpreting them"
This was also further clarified by my statement of "I know what they look like when anything other than directly behind them and can compensate accordingly"

Hark, is that the sound of a reversing bleeper I hear?  ;D

Anyway, I have much more pressing things to attend to right now...namely dealing with the pint that has my name on it.

if you change to LED bulbs wouldn't the screen in the dash state failure.it did in my old BMW,had to fit resistors

It may it may not.
In my old omega I replaced the headlight with HID conversion kit and nothing came up on the screen.

The "direct replacement" LED lamps already have the necessary loading resistor built in.

I was then looking at buying some LED bulbs for my rear brake/tail and front sides

question is would the 360 degree led lights be too bright? or maybe i should get the 5led bulbs?

obv dont want the clusters to be too bright but not too dim either

http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/bulb/bulb_master_3000.php helpful page for omegas bulb upgrades

theres a number of 382 bulbs to choose from, not sure which to get though! any input would be grateful :)

ive read about that, yup would need the resistor type

does it give a full glow of led? (which is the look im after) rather then actually seeing the led bulb?

These look like Audi/Citroen rear lights. IMHO.

Not a fan, but each to their own.

Found these for the wagon - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200383914743&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I presume the indicators and reverse lights are standard bulbs though - kinda defeats the object, I think.
there is a chrome version too

ugh! dont mention the C word!

i prefer standard look but led glow
brake lights would notice the most, ive heard the indicators flash too quickly with some leds so be careful

Only if they don't have the ballast resistor built in, but that's easily fixed.

Pretty sure I've seen LED replacement bulbs on ebay that don't interfere with the check system.
Bit more expensive though.

Of course, I could be typing shite...............

I have some 21w LED repalcements for brake and reverse - tried them in my Carlton (check system thrown in bin) but they don't work.
For some reason, they were OK in my old Calibra, but seems the polarity is wrong in the Carlton - might it be the same in an Omega? :-/
