That looks like it's come off a 4 pot. If so I'm not
surprised by the state of it. The routing of the cable,
down the clips of the cambelt cover, provides a
perfect line for oils drips from the cam cover gasket
to track down, get trapped inside the sheathing that
covers the bottom third of the cable and collect on
the crank sensor.
The sensor gets slowly sauteed in the hot oil until
it cracks the join, enters the sensor, and causes the
damage that your picture shows.
When I replaced mine I changed the run of the cable
and brought it round the front of the power steering
pump and then linked back into the clips that run up
the cambelt cover. This effectively puts a loop into
the cable run and stops the oil reaching the sensor.
Any cabling that follows the original route will end up
with a sensor like the one in your picture unless the
engine is oil-tight in that area, in my opinion.

It was off a 4 pot yes and what a pain in the rear to remove :o
-
When I replaced mine I did it from the top.
Just removed the heatshield from the exhaust
manifold to give my wrists some room for access, and
changed the sensor by touch.
Now I know that the oil dipstick tube is a pushfit, I
would undo it's single securing bolt, remove the tube
and make access to the sensor much easier.
The sensor is too fat to pull it out if you follow the
original cable route, but if you re-route iaw with my
previous post, you can just cut the cable and then
fit your new one.
I have a strong suspicion that I'm teaching my granny
how to suck eggs here ::) , but hey- ho, it might
help someone else reading it. :)
-
Well I could not get my hands down or up >:( tried always.... could not even see the bloody crank sensor :o
Ah well I know for next time exactly what to do ;)

Bith too far gone to be of any further use I would have thought. :D ;D
