Title: Tractor autobox
Post by: TheBoy on 17 June 2007, 21:19:29
Gearbox changed, unfortunately with AR25, but nice and smooth.  Unfortunately, only finished just over an hour ago, so bit or an ordeal, just lots of silly little issues.

Knackered and aching, so time for food and beer with my fellow helpers - JamesV6CDX and Tunnie, so big thanks to them for giving up their day, and big thanks to Laidback66 for his help today, and hope he got home in time.

CraigR turned up and took some pictures which I'm sure he'll post tomorrow.

Anyway, my beer is calling, and I look forward to the entertainment of JamesV6CDX and Tunnie getting drunk (alas, its a school night, so I mustn't get too hammered or be too late to bed)

Yes, enjoying a bottle of stella or two after that.

After Dave left, with the Bellhousing mated and T/converter fitted, discovered breather trapped in bellhousing. so back off with the box  >:(

Thankfully, the Dogs remained aligned.

Then, the starter motor  caused me a NIGHTMARE  >:(

It didn't want to engage gears at first, but once fluid level corrected it was fine.

Jaime and I have both driven it, and it drives fine.

Anyway, all done  8-)

Tomorrow morning, Tunnie and I will be changing MY gearbox on the Elite.

And yes, I'll be making sure he gets up early.... ;D

Breather pipe trapped? Oh come on guys!  IF you removed the inlet manifold (as I suggested) you would have had better access, could have cable tiued the breather up correctly, got the box on quicker and hunky dory.

What was up with the starter? Didn't take driveplate off did you?

Fluid level always wants checking before starting. There will be some minor loss on removal, plus what dave lost on the way down on every left hand bend! ;D

Glad you got it sorted. I have to put the box on mine during the week. V6 on my own. I am aiming for 1 hour start to finish. It would be nice, but with just the one jack I don't think so, anyway I will see.

Well done and glad it is is up and running again. I hope Dave hasn't left my autobox refill kit there has he?

We did originally check ATF level, but because the TC was empty, it took it in quick.

On reflection, Inlet off would be a BIG help.

And yes, after that, I will be emptying Jaime's fridge of Stella ;D ;D

Fin, seriously mate, which day are you doing this change? If I can get up to Nots I'd help you... and bring my 3 tonne jack.. it's so much easier with 2 of you.

Dave owes me a kit thgen the swine. I need that during the week. Don't forget it Dave 'no mate, i won't'

MUPPET!

James, I don't know what day I will be doing it. It will be in between driving lessons, so any day when it doesn't rain. Yes it is easier with two certainly, but I'll do it just for fun. Did a bit on the project today, but not a lot. I am missing one pipe. DAVE???

Put both rads and fanbs back, connected up the fuse box again. I have about 20 wires to resolder for the LPG setup. Engine will then need a full service, but not before I have heard it running again. Box is fine but will need fluid top up as usual once removed.

New exhaust will be here tomorrow or Tuesday I hope. Thats one new Cat and a cats back rest.

Then there is inside the car to sort, one check strap, one dent and thats it just about. Oh the LPG still to deal with, but all in a days work. Car should be done by the weekend.

Gearbox on James' is much easier, although more work. 45 minutes to get exhaust and gearbox off. 1 hour to put back then exhaust back on another 15 minutes. Job done.

Don't forget, TC onto the box for this one. Watch the TC bolts. There is ALWAYS one!
