wife went to work this morning but found light traffic so stoped for a paper went back to her 2.2dti elite and the car would not start. So she rang me as i replaced the injector return lines yesterday. the car was working fine when i finished the job. It stated first time this morning. this afternoon when she had her dinner hour i took her back to the car with spare battery in the back just in case. Went to start car but would not go. In the end called out the RAC. Turned up in 20min good. Put his machine in the plug and it said that we had the wrong key. Same key she always has but this time the transponder did not work so i went back home got the other key and the elite started first time. That will be a new key i surpose. >:( >:( :( :-[ :-/ :'( anyone else ever had anything like this?

The little chip inside the key might have moved,
have a look but be carefull when you open it,

I know its halloween this week but i have just taken the key apart after todays toils and i did it very slowly and in good light and there is no transponder in it? The transponder is the very small black chip about 6 mm long i think in the side of the key right :-? :o :o if it was not in there before how has it been starting???

Thats right thats the transponder, it has to be close to the ignition, so maybe its fallen out and in the carpet somewhere :o :-?

The Boy might be able to help with another chip and programming it. I have a spare chip too if you need it, obviously it will need programmingto your car too. :y

Did you ever see that episode of traffic cops or road wars etc when the police man jumped out of his Omega to chase a baddy, took the keys with him and didn't realise he had left the main part in the ignition and only had the button part in his hand. Possibly a similar explanation?
Has your wife been chasing baddys???? ;D ;D ;D

I must have done similar when I 1st got this
shed Astra diesel. I'd eventually got it running, and then I couldn't start it. Tried the other key & away it went :y. Took the 1st key apart & there was no chip :( :-?, but assumed it was missing when I got the car/key. Months later I was sat on the drive working on my Omega and I spied a transponder chip on the floor, put it into the 1st key & Ta Dah!!!! It worked!
Which is why I have a 'spare' chip ;) ;D ;D
