Title: Autobox Additives?
Post by: Pete Elite on 31 October 2009, 01:55:22
Hi, Daz may be doing my Autobox Fluid/Filter change next Friday and i was wondering if there are any additives that can be added that will actually help things in the box?

Nothing (and I do mean NOTHING) is going to help anything if the damage is already done.
Similarly, there is nothing that is going to improve it's lifespan either (if there was, the manufacturers would already be using it).

If the box is working as it should be, then do the fluid/filter change and forget it for another 60K or so.

So things like MOLYSLIP MULTIGLIDE or LUCAS TRANSMISSION FIX are no good then, and will not do this as it says below in the adds.

"Molyslip Multiglide will sure up shaft seals, adds extra power to torque converters, conditions the pumps, replaces lost detergent, adds life and traction to clutches and friction plates and makes shifting through the gears smoother with less slippage".

"Lucas Transmission Fix Stop Slip rejeuvenates worn bands in your autobox and stop slipping by coating the bands with a polymetric film. Cleans and lubricates all parts for smoother changing".

If its knackered, its knackered. If its not knackered, DIII is all you need.

Hopefully not knackered Jamie, it's just occasionally dropping out of gear when going slowly and a bit of a slight jolt when changing sometimes :(.

Have done this Tunnie, it was about a litre low but didn't make any noticeable difference but the fluid that ran out was really disgusting :( so hopefully Daz is going to change it for me on Friday :y.

when you drop the sump, you'll judge how kackered it is by the amount of gearbox metal filings around magnet

I'll keep my fingers crossed Jamie as it's not really that bad but hard to describe fully :-X.
