Title: Best size/format for pics
Post by: Nickbat on 18 June 2007, 23:09:12
I have posted pictures on here before (via Photobucket), but I find it's a bit hit and miss. Sometimes they show up, other times I just get the Photobucket link.

I have a 7.0 megapixel Lumix, so the pics I take tend to be pretty large. I can reduce them in Photoshop and save them in any format. Can anyone recommend an optimum size for viewing (in pixels) and the most reliable file fomat (BMP, JPEG, TIFF etc.)?

I don't think I'd be out of order here if I said;

640x (wide) - max (see the problem folk have with text too wide in windows if you go over this)
- height is less of an issue.

Small & clear I reckon.  Jpeg.  7Mpx (if uncropped) will compress to something quite sensible and be presentable if do this.

Photobucket has a resizing function, just choose the "message board/forum" option  :y

640 width max - any bigger makes it difficult for those with 1024 x 768 screens...
