Title: Best budget brand tyre
Post by: Del Boy on 28 November 2009, 22:23:59
Saab is in desperate need of some new front tyres now they're only just above the limit, anyway was wanting to get Sport Conti 3's as it has brand new ones on the back and even though the one of the front are low on grip only get mimimal slipping.

Anyway they're too expensive due to the fact I'm tight and I probably won't have it long after Xmas anyway. So what tyres do you find that have good grip and keep road noise down for sub £100 a pair 235/45/17 are there any  ;D

imho if I was in a tight budget, still I would go after good quality brands like michelin ps2, good year eagle F1, Potenza etc for second hand with a few thousand kms..

ps: dont buy which have puncture repairs...

Would a wash not remove dust from old stock tyres?  ;) ;) It's the date code you need to look at, 4 digits, the 1st two are the week number & the 2nd two are the year they were made (assuming they were made after 2000 for the pedants ....  ::)  ::) :y)

You could see they were straight off the shelf. That's unless they got a toothbrush out to clean them.
I have just bought 2 Conti 3 from a Car super store down here in France for 65E plus vat each and a budget as a spare for 12E and this has the same tread patten as the Conti 3 but seems a lot harded rubber.
At the moment the store has a offer on Conti's buy 4 get 1 free plus 35% discount.

I run Accelera Alpha's but I wouldn't have them on the front of a WWD car :o :o :o

They're fine with RWD but... Just No!!

Stick the nearly new Rears to the front and stick the budget ones on the rear (if you must) ::) ::) ::)

Stuff that it's worn the front one's out in wait for it... got a recipt for 2 brand new Conti Sports at 63,000 miles, it's now on 72k, rears were put on 2 days before I got it  ;D So it's budget unless I can find a decent cheap set of tyres  ;D Got some nice one's lined up from a bloke I know very cheap and they're sport contis with 6mm of tread hopefully he'll still have them.

Nexen arent that bad. Had them on the rear of my M3 some years ago. Held up really rather well and were nice and progressive.

Kumho KU31's are good value for the money.

Got Dunlop SP Sport MAX on mine at the moment and am impressed but they are a bit more expensive than Kumho's

They have gone up quite a bit recently. I used them for a while. Impressive grip, don't tend to wander and reasonable wear rate but they are quite noisy, I found.

Yeh, seems to be a common trait of Dunlop tyres i've found, The 9090's and 9000's are noisy as well but I do like the grip levels.

Got some cheap crap on mine something "Prima?" may be acceleras?

Absolutely rather lethal in the wet :o, fine in the dry but the first time I was out in a downpour I near shat myself on a downhill sweeping right turn in the city centre one sunday morning. Old biddies in a Micra nearly died of fright as nigh on 2 tons of Beastie came at them, 35 mph sideways ;D

Really, do not go there!

I never understand why people buy and run decent top of the range cars sparing nothing in keeping them in tip top condition then put rubbish tyres on their vehicle risking their lives into the bargain. Like  CD Pete I crashed and was lucky not to have been badly injured due to using cheap budget tyres. I have never skimped on tyres since I run Goodyear F1's on my miggy, its not worth chancing it, it could be your life. Thats it rant over :o

Neutons have very good reviews for in the wet and dry which is probably what I'll be going for.

Ive been impressed with them on the rear of the mig as said even flooring it in the wet the other night it didnt let go. We had some heavy frost the other morning too and still it held front a bit iffy with the acceleras though thinking of changing them soon.
