Title: Insignia question
Post by: Omegadoha, Desert Member on 10 December 2009, 16:23:55
Is the Insginia about the same size as the Omega or Vectra. Reason for asking is that I haven't seen any Insignias on the roads here yet.

I would say it has approx. the same footprint but bulkier looking, nice though :y.

Its defo Vectra size, it looks big on the outside, but its very much smaller than the Omega on the inside.

Most of the big cars built in recent years onwards seem to be like that though Tunnie like the Rover 75, Jags etc, they seem to like to build them with a snug fit which seems such a waste of space :(.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Had a look at a few on ebay and there doesn't seem to be that much leg room in the back. Still a tidy looking car. Loads on ebay although they all seem to be classifieds.

I disagree, but the dash is a totally different shape and kinda wraps itself around you, therefore giving the impression it's alot smaller than it actually is?
I think the rear legroom is better in Insignia than Omega to be honest, as the front seats go waaaaaay back.

I got the complete oposite impression, i felt cramp in terms of head room, even pumping the seat right down. Leg room looked worse to me  :-/

Its no bigger inside than a VectraC, rear headroom looked even worse!

one close friend have one.. I watch them side by side.. from outside even the old miggy have better and softer lines and curves (of course depends on personel preference)

vectra pardon  ;D insignia stays higher in shoulders for safety reasons (may be) which I dont like..
front design fairly better but from back miggy is the winner also from sides imho..

dash board design better than miggy..but theres 12-14 years of difference in production..

white models nice imho..but very expensive..

White is the "standard" colour too - every other coluor is more money according to Vx website.

Fair point about the sloping roof too, but the Insignia is far and away a much, much better car than any Vectra.
I really like them and have my fingers X'd our lass buys one next year (plenty of Omega Elite gubbins for my MV6 then!!!) :y

had one as a hire car back in summer bloody awfull
a lot smaller inside than the omega
trying to look out back window was nearly impossible
if i turned my head to the right all i could see was the roof beam
would never own one
i only had it 4 days as steering packed in
they  replaced it with new mondeo BRILLIANT car
loved it and i have never been a friend of fords before
would consider having one when the omega has gone

They're easily missed IMHO. Tend to blend into the continuous stream of repmo-boxes by being about as distinctive as a Toyota Avensis. :(

Well I've driven one & been a passenger in another, thought they are roomy & comfortable. The boot is huge!

My gaffer has a new mondeo as a company car and when it was in for a repair he got an Insignia as a temp replacement and he loved it, thought it was better to drive and better kit although he liked the mondeo's styling better. Having been in it ,would have to say that the mig is slightly roomier however.

I agree with you there. Not too keen on the rear end, reminds me of the Renault Laguna.

I just got rid of my insignia and bought the omega which I much prefer.
big boot, better chasis than the vectra, nice lighting on the speedo area, adaptive lighting was good.
the bad
can't see behind you, electronic handbrake is a nightmare car kept rolling down the road!!!!! got out once it rolled down the drive into my new garage door cost me £125 to get the bumper resprayed.
the stupid camera thing never worked, dab radio took 3 hours to find a different channel, it was a 1.8 elite, leather was like plastic & seats gave me backache leather in omega is soft & looks like leather.
1.8 engine gutless spent every second i drove it changing the 6 gears.
you have to lean across to use the dash controls on the pass side if you can remember how the stupid menus work or which one does what(meanwhile you have driven off the road & are in a field)
climate control crap, floor area is always cold unless you manually direct it down, I never touch the omega one.
the thing is constantley beeping for some reason, key in ign & boot open etc was like driving a fruit machine.
looks nice from the front but rear/ side ugly.
apart from that it was alright lol
had it for 4 months never even washed it took it back.
washed the omega already!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
