are there any paintwork experts on the forum?the problem is i've got a really dull piece on one of my doors, the paint is metallic but i wouldn't know what code it is.i've tried polishing and waxing but it still ends up looking the same. :o

Have you tired detailing clay? Might be worth a go.
-
yeah i've tried that,it looks like it's been rubbed down with some really fine wet and dry,you can only notice it from certain angles, but i know it's there if you know what i mean.

You haven't cut through the top coat have you? I would have thought a combination of clay and polishing compounds would have been enough.
Hopefully someone a bit more knowledgeable will be along shortly to help.

If the paint is good, but the laquer has been removed it will need to be re-laquered, then T-cut and polished once it's fully hardened.
-
It does sound like there has been some previous paintwork done on it,and forgot to laquer. You can polish all day and night but if theres no laquer you will get no shine. ;)
-
its the laquer thats gone dull,it's all solid as a rock.whats best for cutting?will ordinary t-cut do the job?
-
It sounds like the laquer has gone from that area, maybe it was thinly applied there originally and has worn away.
If the paint is good, not thin, then get some 1500 emery, and some clear laquer, lightly wet and dry the area, clean it off and wipe with tacky cloth and respray with laquer, blending over onto the good paintworrk. Give it a week or two to fully harden, then T-cut the whole panel, removing the roughness/dullness from the overspray on the good paintwork, then polish up the panel.

If the laqer is still on there,i would use some 2000 wet and dry,and then g3 compound. :y

try to wet sand with 1500 then step to 2000 then polish if it will not come back it needs to be recleared woulh but i think im a little to far USA sorry but let me know if it helps

as explained above try 2000 grid.. but if you see any paint color-paint dust in water then stop!! meaning you have no laquer..
you will need a re-paint then..
