Title: slowest speeding ticket
Post by: pembroke on 30 January 2010, 20:52:05
Last summer I spent an afternoon driving from Spain to Calais along the French toll highways at 100mph+ in my E300 Merc. It was a beautiful afternoon and the roads were fairly empty. We hopped on the ferry to Dover and whilst driving out of the port I was stopped for driving 25mph in a 20mph zone; all afternoon I was driving a ton+ with no police in sight and then I get done for driving 25mph in the Port of Dover! I honestly could not believe my luck!

You should be grateful you got done this side of the water though... It'll have been cheaper :y :y

How could you get done for 41 in a 40 zone? 1 mph over? speedo's aren't even that accurate, and even doing a steady 40, most would be hard pressed not to go up and down a little.

Indeed. If it were me I would be asking (in court) for evidence that their equipment was suitably accurate to eliminate the possibility that I was in fact driving at or below the limit.

I thought by law there was a 10% +/- margin for errors?
Maybe I am wrong, usually am.

I thought all speedo's were designed to underread by about 3 mph..

So if it shows 40, your doing 37ish

so if clocked for 41, speedo would be reading 44 / 45 ish

so should be no debate for this sort of thing....He should have known he was speeding from that.

Now, whether they could guarantee it was definately 41 recorded with no margin for error on their part is a very different argument

In November 2002 I was done for 37 in a 30 on the westbound A4 at Thatcham - this is the camera ref. SEBE 103 sited just before before the Catholic church. I was test driving my current Omega at the time which I bought from DK Autos. It was not until Feb 2003 I think that they caught up with me as obviously at the time I was not the owner of the car.

This is a mean camera as you hit the lower speed suddenly and it was not an area I was familar with.
