...some may recall york meet last year where had issues with the rear brakes and discs etc, anyway had the pads changed to Ferodo as best ones we could source at York on a Saturday, then changed the discs when returned to London. Anyway, ever since then the squeal coming from the rear brakes has been pissing me off, so on Saturday changed the rear pads to genuine GM ones at the discounted price of £41.00, originally wanted £56 :-X......Anyway results are no more brake squeal :y.......moral of the story stick to genuine GM stuff, Oh and thanks to Loo knee for sourcing the pads at short notice and changing them over :y

have you still got ebc discs all round Mick? Personaly wonder how oe pads will work with those discs all round, might be a good combination?
-
Rear pads are around a tenner I though :o. Rear shoes are expensive...

For rear vented discs they aren't, well not in our Vx anyway :-?
-
Just been on the phone to our Vx, apparently the ones I got for Mike's car were the Original ones which last longer :-? plus it had new springs and new pins in too, where as the cheaper ones are after market pads, whatever that means, I said "Are you saying they aren't Vauxhall then?" he said "No just after market ones which don't last as long"..... plus they dont have the pins and springs in.
Can anyone confirm with there Vx... its an 01 car with rear vented discs.
See what price they come up with...
Won't be to happy if they are cheaper else where
-
I've just bought some (actually - I ordered them. Must pick them up from the stealer) and they were 11.99 on trade club.
At least, I bought a load of stuff and checked the total against what I was expecting and it matched, so if they've charged more they've undercharged for something else.
Vented or unvented disks at the rear makes no difference. Same pads apparently.
Makes the disks 'kin expensive though. :'(

Had a bit of a nose when it was at WIM few months back, looked like they had plenty of meat on the pads, no marks on the disc or big lip. :)

The 'normal' ones you buy at a dealer (retail or TC) are different from the ones originally fitted at factory. For the rears, I personally would go for the TC ones.
The fronts, thats a different story. The normal dealer ones are good, but the OE ones are even better.

Presumably you checked when you bled the brakes the other day, and also freed up the caliper a bit, and generally cleaned things up?

Errrr 'Yes' ::)

just been on the phone to my vauxhall in derby & they said you can buy some cheap pads 4 a omega but they r no good on a v6 which have vented discs on them, and the price is £62.86,so if you have vented discs dont buy cheap pads. :y

Thats the dealers talking BS again. I'm not convinced that the higher performance pads are that important on the back of these...

Agreed. I'm not convinced there's much braking at the back anyway (the normal way with a production car, as the average driver doesn't deal well with the back of the car trying to outbreak the front). ;D
I can take my car out for a good spanking and, whilst the front disks will end up smoking, the rears rarely get too hot to touch.
Speaking of smoking, I wonder what GM were smoking when they decided an Omega needs vented disks at the rear?

Did you ever solve the case of the missing vented discs at the back? ....... you had the older solid discs in a the time, hence the piston escaping from its bore :-? ;) ;)

i have the oe pads all round, as Mick has on the back now, and find them far better than the usual trade club pads you may have been expecting.
I would recomend fitting oe on the front as well if you can get over the price,£70 on tc, they are £100 retail according to the parts man.
It was fitting oe to the rear that persuaded me to fit oe all round.

They also fit far better than the Ferodo Baggins ones we took off :y

ferodo pads do not have a good reputation in the bike world, but i dont think they do minimoto brakes for hobbits anyway.
:)
by the way, Vxl v6 has the same pads, i believe he said he would not go back to trade club pads now, also recomended by omegatoy.

Indeed I have on both the front and rear (on the Elite at least) and it's well worth the extra cost. :y
The only problem I seem to have is sourcing the rear pads now (will be putting them on the estate when they are next due) so if anyone finds a dealer with some then please let me know as my local dealer has been trying to source them for a few months now and has them back ordered from GM in Germany!
On my previous Elite I fitted TC pads on the rear and they produced nearly as much dust as the fronts!

how best to describe it...? press the pedal with trade club pads and nout much happens until a fair bit of pressure is applied at the pedal, with oe fitted on the rear there was a noticeable slowing with no front end dip with far less pedal pressure, however to stop properly you had to apply the usual trade club level of pedal prressure.
Then with oe fitted on the front a similar iprovement was felt. Personaly i wonder if there may now be a brake imbalance towards the rear that may bring the back round if breaking hard while turning in? depends how hard Mick drives it i guess?

EBC discs on front only, they are due to be changed but may just do the pads.

The main squeal would happen sometimes when braking at junctions, but always when reverse parking, which was a bummer cos the missus always knew when I was home, but she does'nt now, so can sneak off to the pub for a swifty :y
