Title: Off to car auction!
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 09 February 2010, 15:52:18
My first car auction tonight - I'm going with Josh.

Going mainly for the experience - as never been before.

I do have my eye on a dog-mobile though - it's a Pug 406 2000(v) Estate, 2.0 HDi 110 model with 127k -

We have ideas re what it may be worth - anyone have any thoughts on what it may fetch at auction, in tidy condition? :)

Although I've bought some enclosures for dogs in the saloon, it's not totally ideal... so this would be perfect at the right price. They do 60mpg too!

Last time i was there, they had a fleet of x-plod 330d's go through, saw couple of Omegas but they were rough, used on skid-pan i think.

Also send accident damaged cars though, see some good stuff  :)

Don't take your wallet, you will be tempted.  ;D

If that HDi estate goes under £800 I may well snap it up...

It had dents in the front OS wing, both OS doors, but otherwise very tidy and started /ran like a dream.

I had a strict budget of £750 - considering it was an auction, with no comeback - so the low price I was prepared to pay allowed for that risk - and for the fact it needed a cambelt so on...

It went for £1k.....

Very nice, executive model with leather, and those HDi engines are cracking .... but, it went beyond the budget....

Was there anything else there that caught your eye?

Does anything go for the low hundreds these days?

Last one I went to was BCA Enfield, where it seems the east europeans brought just about everything. I never saw a single car that I thought 'what a bargain'

You did the right thing sticking to your budget James given the dents & scrapes you listed. Might not bother everyone but still an issue when you come to sell on as one chip /scrape/dent on a given panel can result in said panel needing a full re paint, rub back, fill da, prime, 320, 180 discs, prime again disc back again all before paint & oven rec. Hence 3 panels can equal a financial write off.
406's are good motors especially the Exec models but there are plenty out there to choose from & watch out for the rear wheel tracking! :y
