Title: Question about rear silencer
Post by: Dany on 05 February 2010, 18:11:19
Hello all!

I have found a dual branched rear silencer from Irmscher (i 40 08 041) and I want to put it on my car... But it comes from a 2,6 petrol and I have a 2,5 DTI (both are Facelift models).

My question is: Can I mount a silencer that comes from a petrol engine on my car?

Thank you for you answers!

I want to fit the complete body kit... The silencer can be a problem, but all problems have solutions... I hope!

I can't see you having problems bud. It's something that i've done before, though not on an Omega.

And no problem to fit it? No problem for the VAT? Any accessories needed? Or simply replace the original with the dual?

May be a problem with the fuel tank, as I recall, but might just be on the estates.  Cant remember specifics...  Also, the gen Irmscher rear bumper valance is specially shaped for outlets at either side instead of two on the one side.

Might be worth a PM to user Jim as he was/is doing a similar thing....   :y

I know for the rear bumper, I need to fit the i 40 01 455 with this silencer ;).
I only need to know if I can mount a silencer made for a petrol engine on my diesel... If it's without danger for my engine or others things... I'm not a mechanic specialist...

I've done the same well yours is the 2.5 DTI that they only did in Europe. The prob is the silencer that has 2 inputs and the deisel on has 1 so you'll need to make an adapter.

Do you have an photo's of your engine? I want to do a 3.0d conversion.think the 2.5DTI you have is almost identical?  :)

So I can put my silencer but I need an adapter? No problem for the VAT?

Thanks for the pic! One without cover would be even better!  ;D

You'll need to make or buy a Y adapter like this, Cant see a problem for the VAT.

Ahhh...the legendary 24V 6 cylinder diesel engine that was never available in right hand drive (and hence none in the uk).

The key thing you have to contend with is the fact that the petrol V6 rear sylencer will ahev 2 inputs and your iesel will only have a single pipe...not a massive problem to sort though.

Whats in the E60 525d's then? Still same 12v lump in the Omega?  :o

Thank you Mark, and I'm super satisfied! Flexibility, power, and delicious sound! It's almost like a petrol, no vibrations! And I was lucky to find it in manual, usually It's an auto gearbox.
I'll buy a Y splitter like the one that Nova_Turbo showed me on his link.

Have you thought about a Tunning Box for your DTi Danny?, you can creep those engines up to arround 200bhp.

Yes! But I don't like tuning boxes... I prefer a good remapping. I've passed my car on a dynamometer and the results are very bad... The guy from Auto Tune Heinz (the best for remapping of Belgium) would not modify it because he didn't like the results after the bench...

I went to Opel, but it can not be reset with the Tech2, "ECU error" or something like that... So I have a problem for reprogramming, otherwise I need a new ECU... And It's expensive!

The original data are supposed to be 110kW (150hp), 300Nm
What do you think about this?

God thats awful.

I agree, tuning boxes are a right bodge, not a fan at all.

And I think my engine is a common rail too...

The thing I find strange is that even by Opel, they fail to reset or upgrade the ECU with the Tech2. The car refuses the reading program...

strange one.....sadly I cant comment as I have never seen this power plant in an Omega.

That torque curve is odd......its almost as if boost drops off for a while around 2500-3500rpm.

I wonder if there is some vac operated devie or EGR that could be doing something strange.....it would be interesting to see a graph of RPM v Boost

I had not thought to EGR, good idea, I'll clean it. There is a tutorial somewhere in the forum for that? Otherwise I ask my mechanic...

But I don't think that's it, it would be too easy! And it does not explain why they have a problem with the Opel Tech2 upgrade...

Maybe my car has already been (badly) modified?
