Title: Speaker help.
Post by: Amigo on 11 February 2010, 19:18:50
My Consul will be all repainted & back on the road soon, just picked up a free years tax disc from the P.O. today. 8-) When the polarity is reversed & alternator conversion is complete i've got a modest Kenwood single cd head unit ready to fit but i'd love to find a pair of 2 or even 3 way enclosed surface mount speakers that i can velcro fit...ie in thier own box as i don't want to chop the rear parcel shelf about to sink in a pair of 6x9's.
Those of us of a certain age will remember the speakers i'm after. Any ideas please?

I know what you mean too, but can't say I've seen anything like that for yonks!

Are you looking for that 'retro' look to them?
Might be worth having a go at making some yourself?
Or trying some of the larger car audio stores? ('Fraid I don't know any names apart from Audio House, and that might be well out of date by now!!!)

Guy, the defenders have hang-up 6x9's as an option. I'll see if I can find a pic.

I remember a couple of years ago I bought a pair of 6x9's in a box and they were cheap off of ebay, somebody is probably still making them. I only bought them for the speakers as well, because they had blue led grills, which at the time I thought was cool lol

I've got a pair in my garage you can have that I felt obliged to have off my neighbour ::) :)
They're black and I think "Audioline" is in white lettering. I have no idea if they work and no way of testing them. I'll post a pic tomorrow ok.

Sorry for being a bit late but I tried logging on the forum yesterday evening but it kept timing out :o
As you can see the front speaker has a few small holes in the grill. There is a bolt screwed into the base of each speaker but they can be discarded if you're using velcro.

That's the sort of thing. Do yopu know whether or not they're blown or could you test them please? If all is ok we could strike a deal via paypal or personal cheque. Cheers, Guy. :y

Cheers Dave. These are not for my MV6, that's all Bose'd up but you are right about pattern speakers.
The car is a 1961 Ford Consul & has never seen a speaker in it's life!!! :y

Sorry mate but as I posted earlier I am in no position to test these. My neighbour assured me when he gave them to me that they worked and they've just sat on a shelf in my garage for a few years. I don't want anything for them just cover the postage costs ok ;)
