Title: Car jumps / shakes when starting
Post by: Omegadoha, Desert Member on 21 February 2010, 05:13:11
If a car jumps as you start it, does that mean the engine mounts are on the way out?

It's just that I had a look at a Chevrolet Caprice (2006) yesterday and it had that symptom. But after starting it idled fine.

car is jealous because you betrayed her ;D :y

imho I would check the ignition.. :-/

seems like some cylinders misfire randomly..and if it idles ok later checking the condition of starter is not a bad idea imo..

ps: if engine mounts are bad you will feel some vibration in the steering when you accelerate..

I had this problem on my Carlton, the motion when under the starter motor made it misfire, and damp had got in when standing - cured it by removing and cleaning the HT leads, one of the spark plug cap clips was a loose fit so replaced, but a faulty distributor cap could also be the cause.  :)
